I noticed when I rode my GFs 'wing to the shop that hers feels quicker and more throttle responsive than mine. Both 2007s, about 500 miles difference (~3000 vs ~3500) same tires and both current on maintenance. Only thing I'm sure is different is that mine is an ABS model - so maybe 10 pounds heavier. Given how alike our bikes are the difference is rather surprising. Anyone have any ideas what might account for the difference?

Her Swing probably has lighter weights in the variator. Possibly Dr Pulley sliders. Stock is 28grams roller weights. I replaced my 28gram rollers for 24gram sliders. Much faster on acceleration yet about 400 less RPMs at about 60-70 MPH.

Possibly, but I'm sceptical. They were a his and hers pair and I got the feeling that he only did stuff like that for himself (mine has a custom windscreen on it with the goldwing vent). Speaking of him.. I had heard that he was a big guy.. could the difference be a more worn belt? Maybe clutches?

Drag race. Butt feeling can be questionable.
Ride them back to back on same road and distance. Time it and measure speeds.

Interesting idea. I didn't think it could make that much of a difference.

Lighter rollers can make a BIG difference in how they accelerate.

I went from stock to a J Costa variator - HUGE difference. But the J Costo wears out rapidly. I've since switched to Dr Pulley Sliders. I bought a set of 24 gram sliders and a set of 21 gram sliders. All 24 gram sliders made some difference (compared to stock) but felt slow after the J Costa. I've mixed them 24/21/24/21 etc and also run straight 21 gram sliders. Each way is noticeably different. Currently running the mix of 24 and 21 gram sliders for good acceleration and not too many RPMs on the highway.

If the J Costa lasted longer, I wouldn't run anything else. I put one on my Vespa last year and it made a real difference there, but not like it did on the Honda. I'll see how long it lasts.

Progress report. I've had the stock screen on for a while (thanks Cosmic_Jumper), but it's been rainy enough here that I didn't get much ride time (plus been trying to figure out a handling issue) but it definitely feels quicker with the smaller screen (not mention much cooler). Maybe I'm odd, but I actually like the stock screen so no hurry on the 214AF that I eventually want for the bike.

I'm thinking that next I should change the belt (probably the original from 2007) and clean the rollers/variator to see if that also improves things. I plan to change to sliders at some point, but I'm undecided on which weight(s).
