| Hi all, Well, I finally passed 20,000 miles today. I bought my '07 SWing in March of '07 and passed the 20,000 mile mark coming home from work. the first year I was putting about 1,000 per month but haven't put on quite that many this year. I will say that the SWing is still going strong and rides like new. I do need to get new tires soon and will probably get those in a month or so. I have the Pirelli Diablo's and have to say they are lasting longer than I thought they would. I have 9,500 on them and the front still looks good and the rear has about 3,000 miles left on them. |

| Jeff: I have noticed comments about how often people need to replace their tires and I was wondering how many miles people usually get out of a set of tires. How many miles did you get out of your original tires? Do you like the Pirelli tires better than the Dunlops? Did you get more miles out of them? |

| DCC,
My original tires were Bridgestone Hoops and I changed them at 10,500 miles but I could have gone further. The mechanic said I should have been able to get about another 3,000 out of the rear and 5-6,000 out of the front. It's just that I'm at the point in life where I don't like to push things and since I was putting on 1,000 or more miles per month at that time I didn't want to make another appointment in a month or so. I had the Hyperpro front springs installed at the same time as my Pirelli Diablo's.
I have heard that the Dunlops aren't as good as the Hoops, but that is just what I have heard though.
The Hoops rear tire should have lasted about 13,000-14,000 miles according to the mechanic that looked at them when I ordered my new tires. I changed the Hoops with the Diablo's and I think they are nicer than the Hoops and I think I am going to stay with the Diablo's again.
The Diablo's have 9,500 miles on them now and they should last another 2,000-3,000 miles. The Diablo's seem to be stickier and handle the smaller bumps better. But that is just my opinion. I would suggest that when you change your tires you should really think about the Hyperpro front springs. They are a huge improvement to the handling of the SWing, more motorcycle like to me. Plus they only cost about $155.
Hope this answers your questions. I will say that when I had my Majesty, my OEM tires were Dunlops and when I changed out to the IRC's it was a huge improvement to me. If I do decide to use the Hoops again it would just be that they last a bit longer. I also changed both tires at the same time. I just don't like to take my bike to the shop more than I have to. |
