Has anybody installed fork gaiters on their Swing, and if so, what kind? I've searched this forum and nothing comes up, and there are a lot of different sizes and styles out there. Thanks,

Wendell

The "HippoHands" people make a set that I've had my eye on (but I haven't gotten them yet): http://www.hippohands.com/Fork%20Protectors.htm
I like that the installation doesn't require a huge time commitment.

I custom ordered it 11" long which allow me to wrap the top of the fork with 3 bands of 3M reflective tape on one end for visibility the rest is hidden by the cowl.

You would be surprised how much dirt/dust I collect on them.

Easiest== Dennis Kirk Catalog, Wrap around secured by Velcro. Sometimes a little trimming to get to fit taper.

I have used for several hundred thousand miles on various bikes.
Work fine.
Gators that require taking fork legs out----bike shop, Triumph should have nice looking ones.

Hi All,

Just ordered a set of Black fork boot/gaiters from this company : http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/11/55/699/24874/ITEM/Daystar-Fork-Boots.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch

D83:
Available Travel: 11
Collapsed Height: 1”
Fits Upper Tube Dimensions: 30-40mm
Fits Lower Fork Dimension: 2 -2 ½”

I'll install them when I have the front wheel off for a new tire install.

Be carefull here. I fitted 40mm ID gaiters/ boots and ended up removing them. The forks are 41mm. They look great but will bunch up after a few compressions probably leading to premature failure or tearing.
For foto, go to the link joncallihan posted further up. They ended up on a friends 250 Ninja.
The next size up might work, I have bought these but still have not fitted them. They look too big and might snag on the tupperware. I would have probably ended up with the velcro ones if I could get them here in OZ.

$AU80.00 down the gurgler!

Hi Kurt,

I've looked at your pictures.

The reason I went with these G83's is because of the compression of 1" (25.4mm). These should work well on the Silverwing. I'll let you know how they work out.

Here's one that I used years ago on a mountain bike

http://store.lizardskins.com/products/rear-suspension-boot

They are just stretchy neoprene with velcro closures. They should fit around a 2" diameter spring (50 mm).

They also have fork boots, but the diameter might not be great enough. My 5" travel mountain bike fork has 34 mm diameter stanchions (shiny part). I think the Silverwing has 40 or 41 mm diameter stanchions.

Got the D83 fork boots/gaitors in today and I took the front end of the scooter apart. Had a new tire installed and installed the D83's. Here's a picture of the boot installed on the bikes leg. I will take more pictures, outside, when the weather's a little nicer. By the way...it fit like a glove.

Those gaiters of yours aren't protected species in the everglades are they. Laughing I missed my calling. I should have been a well paid comedian on late night tv.

Hi Reg,

The gaiters worked out really well. You need to take the front end apart (legs removed) to install them, but well worth the effort. This is accomplished without taking the front fairing off...If you were wondering.

I'll be replacing my front springs soon and correcting the leak problem on Old Leaky (name of my scooter). After bottom leak is fixed she will get back her original name of 'Blue Jay'. I own a 2006 in delta blue. pirat

Thanks Dennis. I will order some. My SW is not ridable due to fork seal leak. I gave the seal job to a shop a week ago. But they still have not recieved the seals. Begining to think I should have just gone to the local Honda dealer as they are fast for parts.

We are coming to the end of the season and the warm part of the day is becoming short. But ideal for small jaunts on the SW.

Thanks for the quick reply.
