Vibration at 35 and 55 mph

I Just replaced my rollers with dr. pulley 26 gram sliders and a brand new belt. Tensioned the variator to spec and it runs great.

I just noticed one thing.....at about 35 mph constant it just feels like a vibration or slippage. I dont know, maybe it's normal. It's only my third day on a Swing ever. I've always ridden motorcycles. I was a motor officer for 7, and of course, rode a harley.

At a constant 55 I notice it too. As I goose the throttle it accelerates great and everything seems normal. It runs absolutely great and have great acceleration. It's just an odd feeling at those constant speeds. I may be just paranoid or thinking I feel it. haha.

Any insight fellas?

It's possible that the Sliders are binding slightly. Did you use PBlaster Dry Lube in the roller tracks? Sprays on wet, dries almost instantly into a white powdery coating. Home Depot has it.

I didn't. I just installed them right out of the round container. I cleaned the variator real good though. Should I spray them down tomorrow?

Try giving a little more throttle on takeoff then adjust(lighten up)the throttle to the speed you want to go. Taking off a little faster let's the clutch lock up quickly.

If everything's fail try ear plugs.( works for me LOL)

The buzzing sound you are getting could come from broken tabs on the front fairing . The tupperware  acted like sounding board. Part of riding a Swing . I don't hear it any more,It's some thing that  I learn to live with.Look for gaps for sign's of broken tabs.

Try Roger's 'more throttle' suggestion. If that doesn't resolve your concern then try the PBlaster Dry Lube. PBlaster makes a couple of different products so be sure you get the right item. Spray the roller tracks then put the sliders back in. HTH.

Thanks so much guys. I will try the PB Blaster dry lube if it doesn't get better by the throttle attempt.

When I fitted mine the sliding pieces did not fit at all I had to file them till they could slide freely, however since then all has been fine.

Well fellas, I tried it all. I lubed the variator where the rollers go. I re-cleaned everything. It is still doing it. I honestly feels like the belt is slipping after getting to a constant 35 mph and trying to keep it there. As I give it gas, it accelerates fine and the slipping feeling stops completely. It's doing this at 35-40mph and around the 65 mph speeds.

Could it be the secondary shoes not grabbing? Should I replace the clutch shoes? IF so, what do I need to replace? Springs too?

Well, at this point it wouldnt hurt to, at least, pull the Driven Pulley assembly (22MM socket. 45 lbs ft torque. Lock up the rear brake and take off the DP nut) and check the clutch shoes and clutch bell. Use some sand paper to rough up the shoes and clean the clutch bell. The clutch shoes are not too expensive and not difficult to remove either. If you decide to replace the shoes then you should replace the springs as well.

Thanks so much Tim. I may be taking that off. I just think it has to be the problem. I completely redid the primary portion of it and I still have it. I think it has to be the secondary now.

As machine is not described/age or miles--I would return drive train to stock (using OEM Honda parts) and what happens.

Even my second new SilverWing had/has drive line vibration right out of the box----35-40 mph. Solution: don't drive steady at those speeds. Probably belt slap. After now near 400,000 rubber band drive scooter and atleast 6 or 7 new scooters,I believe in leaving drive line stock.
stock performance fine.....remember these things are scooters and have their handling limits.

My present (#2) after belt change @ 20,000 miles is smoother than 1st days. My tires/wheels balanced by Ride ON.

2x_lung have you ridden a Silverwing other than the one you have now? If not do you know anyone that has or had a Silverwing that would test drive your Silverwing and give you a comparison of the two? If I lived close to you I would let you ride one of mine to see if they ride different.
Also like John said it's best to tell the age and mileage when asking for help. The advice may be different for a scooter with 50 miles on it than for a scooter with 50,000 miles on it.

From his introduction on 06-09-2015, the scooter had 16k miles and he stated the belt was the original from 2002.

This is the first scooter I have ever driven. I bought this wing off of an older gentleman that bought it brand new in 2002. I replaced the belt, as it was original, and the rollers. I installed 26g dr. pulleys. I cleaned everything up on the primary clutch and put it back together. The wing runs phenomenal. I rode the police harley for the last 7 years as a motor officer. I also owned a vtx 1800 in the past. This scooter world is all new to me. haha

I just can't quit letting that slippage feeling or vibration after getting to speed and maintaining it. I am going to tear it apart again shortly and check the clutch shoes. I really appreciate all of your guy's input. IF nothing else, I may replace the rear shoes and springs. Possibly the clutch bell too.

Well, I took off the secondary clutch assembly. The bell housing was really dirty/dusty. I sanded the inside of the housing and sanded the clutch pads as well. They were glazing. I sanded them back to the yellowish-brown that I believe they should look like. I cleaned everything with brake cleaner and put it all back together.

I just took her for a spin. WOW. What a huge difference. It hooks up great and that slippy feeling is non-existent. I'm loving it. Thanks to everything for all their insight. I really appreciate it all.
