| Help. My 2009 Silverwing has 1,100 miles so far. The service manager tells me the belt is worn out and below tolerances. He was looking for a whine/screech that occurs from about 38 mph upwards and is most noticeable between 40 and 45 mph.
Anyone have any ideas for the cause or have similar experiences with the OEM belt?
The scooter had 20 miles on it when I bought it new from the dealer andhas been ridden gently.
I will appreciate any helpful input.

Anyone have any ideas for the cause or have similar experiences with the OEM belt? Someone measured a new unused OEM belt with digital calipers and found it to less then the service limit http://silverwing.org/cgi-bin/topic_show.pl?pid=19561#pid19561 |

| sw2009, I'm not the expert here, being one of the newer riders with not many miles under my belt.... but... something is definitely amiss with your "service manager". Belts do not wear out at 1100 miles (barring any physical mechanical malfunction). Most go far beyond the 16000 mile replacement schedule.
As honda_silver states above, even new belts don't measure correctly sometimes so you can see that Honda maintenance may not be an 'exacting' science. At any rate, you should still be under warranty; if that fella' thinks he'd like to change it, let'im.
Still, use the search function on this site with "drive belt" as the key words. Not only will you find a 'bunch' of info to use but you'll also find a "deglazing" procedure for the belt, which may have been causing your original problem. I'm sure there'll be many others jumping in here very soon to offer more detailed info than I can give. Good Luck. |

| I find it hard to believe that the belt wore out in 1100 miles. Maybe his caliper is off, or they measured it wrong. Is it still under warranty? I have 33k on my scooter and i just put on my 3rd belt. Keep us informed of what your going to do? |

| Thanks for the help on the belt wear. I agree that the wear is a symptom. not the cause.

| Brought mine to the shop today to get the belt changed. It has 16100 miles on it. I am also getting a K&N air filter. |
