| Simple question this.
The aluminium plates with the pillion footrest on are held to the bike with two large bolts. One of these has a deep head and the other has a shallow head (the threads are different lengths too).
I've had both sides off at one time or another and noticed yesterday that I've got the bolts on one side the other way around to the ones on the other side. They will both go in either hole.
Could someone have a look and let me know if the one with the deep head should go in the top hole or the bottom hole.
If I get numerous different answers I'll assume that it doesn't really matter.
Thanks all... |

| Both of the bolt heads are relatively hidden in the recesses. HTH

| Yes, that's a good point Tim. I don't expect anyone to take them out to check. I wonder if the parts list diagrams will make it clear, I should have found some to look at before posting the question really. Oops, sorry everyone!

| It doesn't say anything about there being different sized bolts on the Passenger Footpeg Removal/Installation page of my Boy's Own Bumper Book Of The Silver Wing. Just remove the passenger Footpeg socket bolts, and installation is in the reverse order of removal. |

| Both listed as 10x45 on the parts list. Maybe someone has replaced one with the wrong length bolt? |

| I noticed the bolts were slightly different the first time I removed them. On next removal I made sure to keep them separate. I think the slightly smaller bolt goes in the lower hole, the opposite of what I would have assumed. |

| Funny you should ask. As I had been wondering the same thing. I thought some mechanic had lost a bolt and subbed another.
What I found is the one with the bigger head goes on the bottom.(lower) Same thing on both sides of the SW. |

| Thanks all, I know which side I need to swap the bolts around on now.
Having said that, since one side on my bike has had them the wrong way around for the last couple of years I don't suppose it really matters much.

Unless you have a crash and the insurance company can get out of paying. :lol!: |

| They needed to make the bottom bolt hole a little deeper so they needed a Special bolt with a longer/deeper head so both bolts looked the same at a glance or at surface appearance. No need for a spacer. |
