Save money...Well, are you mechanically inclined? You could do your own service and save money. Also preventative maintenance would in the long run, save you more money.

Now traveling. In the (USA BTW) my wife and I are more suited to our own way of travel (on a Gold Wing), by staying in some of the older motel properties, the one's you can pull up to the door. There is some money to be saved that way, if all you want is a clean room and bed and can do without some other niceties.

Do all work yourself
Present day , after 61 years of doing this....if you use Motels like Motel 6, eat cheap, gas etc daily costs are about $100 a day on long trips, if simple, free camping maybe can be cut to around $50 a day in US, no toll roads----all of this not counting wear and tear on scooter.

I use on only motels you can park in front of room and walk in--handy if you need to do any work/cleaning on bike. or ease in loading/unloading.

Half the clothes, twice the money, plan well and be prepared to change those plans.

Keep the speed down, you will use less gas. This means sticking to quiet back road, this means nice scenary usually. Camping is always cheap. Beer... this is always where the buget goes wrong :-)

Car tire = 30,000+ miles. Motorcycle tire = 8,000 miles. Car tire is cheaper to buy too. Search dark side on this forum for information. There is plenty available.

If you are going to be motorcycle camping. Check out http://www.motocampers.com
