| As most of you know, Im overhauling the look and doing normal maintenance of the Silverwing.
Finally have both rims back from powdercoat, new tires installed, front tire on and rear tire goes on tonight - all new brakepads all around.
My question is - I have the front cowl completely off without the headlights attached to the wiring harness.
Can I still start the bike up in this state without issue?
I just want to give it a chance to run for a few minutes as its been siting on a stand for a while now.
Thanks ahead of time! |

Thanks ahead of time! Yes, But why take the chance of damaging something in the Charging or Electrical systems by doing this? Patience, Continue your great work. Happy motoring lloyd 193. |

A couple years ago, mine had sat in my garage for over 3 years after being rear ended and never having been started that whole time. Fixed the broken parts, put in a new battery and crossed my fingers when starting it up for the first time in 3 1/2 years. Cranked just a little bit more than normal, but started on the first try. WOW! I was amazed and impressed by the wonder of FI. Siphoned out the old gas, put in fresh with some Sea Foam fuel treatment and it has been good to go ever since. (these things just don't want to die) |

| When I bought my 08 SWing from my sister in FL it sat under a tarp for two years before I got it. When I got it home I ordered two new tires, a belt, 26 gram Dr Sliders and a new battery. While waiting for them to get here I hooked the jumper cables from my pickup to the SWing battery cables (I already had the old dead battery out). I wanted to check out all the lights etc just to make sure they all worked. They all did. Then I got the idea of seeing if it would start with 1/2 a tank of two year old gas. It turned over about 3 times and fired right off and purred like a kitten with no smoke or complaining. When I put the new belt on I also put in the 26 gram Dr Sliders and haven't had any problems with it all these four years. The battery I ordered was off eBay and cost $25. I just wanted it running and hoped the battery would last the whole riding season, which it did. During the first winter I ordered a Battery Tender Lithium Ion battery and installed it and haven't had a problem with that either. |

Thanks ahead of time! if i understand your question / configuration - I would not hesitate to start my silverwing if all i had disconnected was the headlights. i would not expect any problems to any of the systems as a result of doing so. if MORE than just the headlights (and turn signals) are disconnected i would be more hesitant. why do you want to start it? when was the last time it was run? |
