Yesterday decided to take my new Mitsuibish Mirage for drive...to James Bay road in
Quebec---got as far as about 150 miles from my home----exit from I-75, giant pothole and deep, too. Result, deflated tire, bent steel rim---stopped trip. Could have been really nasty on bike, small scooter wheels...you might have stuck in hole.
One of the selling points of Mirage for me---compact spare tire/jack/lug wrench. Put tire/wheel back on, turned around went home. Total trip about 300 miles---will try again when snow is gone....with bike.
This was to be my first solo car trip in 20 years or so...I prefer bike/scooter for everything.
Last solo car trip either Geo Metro or my Honda Beat 660cc mid engine mini class sports car in Japan, I forgot which-----great thing of Mirage---good gas mileage---dash meter read 50.8 US MPG!! when I parked in my garage. Half of trip was at 50-60mph with mini spare. This car is almost in Silverwing territory on gas. Geo Metro mpg record for me---down hill, tail wind, stretch in Montana @ 56MPG.
So will have busy week finding new steel wheel/hub cap, checking front suspension. There are not enough Mirages in junkyard to find wheel there---could find in junkyards for my mother's '85 buick for $10, as she hit lots of curbs in her last years of driving.
