Subject: Can you Dr. Frankenstein a Silver Wing? Tue Apr 23, 2019 9:52 pm
I know the Silver Wing changed remarkably little from 2001 to 2013.
My question is, does anyone know if that makes the parts interchangeable?
Specifically, can I put 2012 parts on a 2011 bike? I checked the specs and the only difference I see in those model years is the '12 has a slightly longer wheelbase (63.0" compared to 62.8") and slightly less travel on the front fork.
So, can I swap seats? The windscreen? Body panels?
My instincts say "yes" but perhaps someone has a more definitive answer.
Gracias, amigos.
Mike

Simple answer yes, most parts will fit no matter what year. As you are in the USA that is the home of "Frankensteining". I tell people if an American got hold of a submarine he would not be happy until he had wings on it and it flew.

“It’s funny because it’s true.” — Homer J. Simpson
Although technically, Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, was from Jolly Ol' and not the USA.

The primary differences in the years are: 1. A painted dashboard before 2007 vs a textured dash and raised pocket lids after. 2. The addition of the oxygen sensor a few years later. 3. The addition of a flux capacitor around 2013.
All of which can be retrofit.
and Old Limey, we've had a flying submarine since 1965

I never realized that the flying sub was yellow. Guess that's because we didnt have a color tv till a few years later.

You mean that thing can actually fly in the air? It looks like it was designed to "fly" underwater, different from being made to do something it was not designed to do.

Yes but did it! i cannot see how this thing would ever get Airborne, not enough wing span for a start. How did it power through the air? by jet? if so how did it power underwater? If it was so good why has it never been seen or heard of, if it was produced in 1965? .

It comes from the Television series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" first produced in 1964. The flying sub was added in the 1965 season.
We Americans also launched our first true starship Sept 8, 1966....
