| Morning everyone I'm at the point now where I've put about 20 or 30 miles On my 06 Silverwing8,000 miles. I just purchased and I'm going through it and see that I'm going to want to do some regular maintenance I'm looking for a parts house that keeps, belts plugs air filters, anything you could think that you need for the Silverwing
the all in one Parts House parts houses that I've used on my other motorcycles I'm finding that they have very few if none parts for Silverwing especially maintenance parts I prefer to go to just one place that's reasonably priced course I know sometimes you have to shop prices . I really prefer these parts houses that have the blueprint schematics of the bike where you can get right down to the bolts and screws or parts that you need when major components.
Course I don't mind having a couple of Parts houses if they specialize in maintenance Parts as opposed to major component parts just having a little trouble on the Silverwing finding the parts houses thanks o |

| I believe in using dealer for parts when I can----I want him to be in business when I need him. I do not usually use their shops.....but with ABS problem with my 2013 SilverWing, only dealer could and did solve problem. |

| Is this dealer hatred because you got screwed over or are you trying to pinch a penny super tight? I use my dealer who I trust and have never had a issue with them. They have helped me out in the past, no charge, for stupid questions or advice. Whats paying $5 to maybe $20 extra from a real store if its something you will only order maybe three times max for the life of the scooter? A drive belt was $10 more thru the dealer. How often do I replace the belt? Not enough to complain about $10! But if you must, Cheap Cycle Parts. |

| I've used Partszilla and Bike Bandit for several years and have been very pleased by their service. They aren't truly an "all in one", but have a lot of parts and accessories at good prices and quick service. For parts that aren't offered by online websites a Honda dealer should be the next best source. Although I don't like the repair services that my local dealer provides they do a good job of getting parts.
I ordered a Givi Airflow windshield to put on a friend's Silver Wing that though well packaged was damaged. I called Partszilla and the told me they'd ship another the same day and use it's packaging to return the damaged item. They also included a UPS shipping order to stick on the box for its return trip. No money requested for either the damaged part return or the new one being shipped.
I rate Partzilla as being on of the best quality internet parts vendors. |

| Subject: Final drive oil for sw600 ?? Question, Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:37 pm | |
| Service manual calls for same 10w 30 oil used for engine in final drive gear case. My first Honda Silverwing I think it's really cool that they figured out how to use the same oil and I'm assuming that's the best thing since Honda said so???? I've had a 97 1100 Yamaha virago an Kawasaki 98 1500 both used heavy gear oil. What's s/ wing members opinions??? |

| Motor oil is fine 10w30-40. A gear oil might be better though. NOT a GL5 rated one though like in rear diffs on your other bikes. Pro Honda HP or Belray gear saver are good gear box oils. GL4 manual trans oils are a good option also but are harder to find. Honda Pro 80w85 is a little thicker more like a 10w40. |

| For one thing the gears in the rear aren't a differential, simply reduction gears. Straight cut fairly lightly loaded and very conservatively sized for the job. 30W oil is fine for them since there's no shearing action or combustion products in the gear case so the viscosity of the oil isn't reduced or contaminated in use as engine or transmission oil can be. Honda's recommendation on lubricants and coolants can be relied on completely.
One other thing to watch out for is that any anti-freeze used in the Silver Wing just like most Honda bikes must not contain silicates. There are reasons that silicates are used in some automobiles but the materials and shaft seals in the liquid cooled Honda bikes tend to fail early if the antifreeze contains silicates which are sharp edged microscopic particles intended to scour corrosion from the cooling system.
If silicate coolant is used eventually the weep hole in the coolant pump will begin to weep small drops of coolant and possibly oil depending which seals give way first. Always check the antifreeze container to make sure it's silicate-free. Also never, never use any stop leak compound in the bike. It might stop a leak for awhile but it can gum up the innards and eventually cause overheating.
I saw both problems when I had my shop where I refurbished tired old Goldwings and made them road worthy once again after they'd been neglected. Easy to avoid, expensive to fix. |

| I usually end up using Honda parts but from different suppliers because of the price ranges. An all in one parts house would be a dream come true! Just when I thought my SW was all Honky Dory I'm now going out to the garage to see if the anti-freeze I'm using has silicates in it.......Darn you exavid |

| When I got Preston's anti freeze, there was nothing on the container that indicated the presence or lack of silicates. |

| Take a look at the back of a Prestone antifreeze container. The enlarged rearview will show that brand is free of silicates.
I don't recall buying any antifreeze that doesn't show the presence of silicates if there is any. Usually the container will say silicate free.

| I did. The link in my post to the GL1800 riders shows a small picture of a bottle of Prestone both front and back. Click on the rear view picture and it states it's silicate free. |
