Just finished up my Bestem top box rewire project. I brought wiring into the box via a short wiring pigtail with 6-position square trailer plug, which includes circuits for marker lights, brake lights, turn signals and an always-on 12v source. I've got markers set for all across the back, which brightens when I use the brakes, as well as lighting a dedicated brake light in the lid. I added a courtesy light inside (made from an LED marine step illumination light). That light is hooked into a momentary switch that cuts off the light when the lid is closed. It is easy to unplug that light if the lid is to be left open for very long periods, but the LED's don't use much power anyway.
I also added a new form-fitted liner I picked up from Amazon, which covers and protects most of the wiring. I'll send pics shortly.
While buying LEDs, I also picked up an LED bulb for the under-seat trunk light fixture so it's less likely to tax the battery. Having discovered the switch for that light to be part of the rear latch mechanism, I now make sure it always goes off when when closing the seat compartment by gently pressing the rear edge of the seat and listening for a positive click.
BTW, I use a small right-angle pick with a screwdriver handle to directly push the rear latch mechanism closed so the light shuts off if the seat has to be raised for extended periods, or maintenance. Very easy.
