Clive Eric Cussler is an American adventure novelist and underwater explorer. His thriller novels, many featuring the character Dirk Pitt, have reached The New York Times fiction best-seller list more than 20 times. Wikipedia
I personally love his novels, imagine my astonishment when I found out that one of his novels with the most unique car ever build is based on a true story.

I agree; have read many of his novels. All exciting and most based on transportation issues (planes, ships etc.)

Quite a few years back when the oil companies were surveying arctic areas for oil in Northwestern Alaska they had something almost a big. Catco Rolligons where used for travel over snow and tundra. They had wheels that looked like sausages but BIG. One crew that landed in Kotzebue back in the late 60s demonstrated how low the contact pressure on the ground was drove right over one of their men who was laying on the frozen ground. He claimed it didn't even crush his pack of smokes.

Yep, most heavy stuff doesn't have much in the suspension department. I had a real ride once on a front loader trying to make a quick run on a piece of highway trying to keep from backing up much traffic. Almost threw a half bucket full of gravel on the road or maybe it was trying to buck me out of the saddle. Not a great ride.
