| so im looking to get a wireless phone charger got my swing.but im reading that you may want to install a higher amp fuse? (other brand motorcycle owners) claim that they sometimes blow 2 amp fuses and i should get a 3 amp or more. is that applicable to the swing too or dose this have what it takes already?
looking at the manual i dont even see a fuse lower then 10A anyway. |

| Should not be a problem, since a charger is 5V. 5V 2 A =10 watt 12V 2 A = 24 watt So even if you speed charge with 3 A 5V you should be still OK. In case of doubt use a voltmeter and measure how many ampere the charger is pulling.
I use the 12 V socket to plug in the battery charger what charges with 12V 4 A without a problem or blown fuse. There could be a glass fuse inline the 12 V cable to the outlet. |

| Ten watts in a 12V system means a draw of 0.833A which in itself shouldn't cause a fuse to blow assuming there are no other add ons in the electrical circuit. You could check easily by putting an ammeter in series with your bike's battery and see how close the current through the main fuse is to it's limits. If there's more than two amps less than the main fuse limit there wouldn't be a problem connecting a charger with it's own 2A fuse to the existing 12V circuit on the bike. If the draw of your charger is more than two amps with the phone charging the best bet is to connect another 2A-5A fuse in line with the charger and directly to the battery terminal.
Most people don't realize that a fuse is to protect the wiring, not what's connected to it. So when adding extra circuits it's best to connect a new fuse at the battery and then run a wire to whatever one is adding. |
