| Hello Ray. Welcome to the forum.
After you’ve drained all that stale fuel be sure to put an entire bottle of Chevron Techron or SeaFoam in the tank before you refill the tank with fuel. At that age and with that few miles chances are there’s a lot of varnish and gunk deposits in the tank and fuel system and the fuel gauge won’t be working properly. |

| Last year I bought a 2005 who was stop for 5 years. Had to change the fuel pump but wait don't make my mistake. I should wait for the seafoam to make his action. The pump was stock in varnish. I undo it to try to clean it and I finaly broke it... (****) Bought a new one and as soon I install it on the SW, it started like if it had stop a couple hours earlyer... These motor are built to last... So wait longer to let seafoam make his work.... be patient... If it started it will make his job... wait ... take a break ..... Michel |

| Hi Radtad, When I got my 08 SWing from my sister in FL it had been sitting for over two years and I trailered it back to MN. The battery was totally dead and the gas didn't smell too bad but not new. I hooked up my jumper cables without starting my pickup just to mainly check all the lights and dash gauges. It had 1/2 a tank of gas and after looking over the lights etc. I figured what the heck and gave the starter a try. It turned over about 3 times and popped right off and didn't smoke or misfire. Once I got a new battery for it I dumped a whole can of Seafoam and rode it to the gas station and filled it up and took it for a spin around town. Since then I've had no problems with it. I would follow Tim's comments too. He knows a whole lot more than I do about things like this. |

| Hi Radtad, Welcome from Nova Scotia, the sticky out part of Canada on the East coast.
Be sure to replace the tires too. If original they likely have fine cracks in the side walls and yet lots of tread left (maybe).

| That's very bad replace entire pump assy. How much rust is in the rest of tank that also needs to be cleaned.?? There are kits to clean tank ACID. I've used these before and they will remove the rust. Just use the Acid and not the coating stuff. Something like this |

| I'd still clean out all the rust and start fresh. Rust is worse at top of tank and hard to see inspect it carefully. If you decide to clean it follow the instructions the acid is nasty be careful using it.
There are several similar products for sale to clean the rust. Research it. |

| I usually use a apple cider vinegar soak for two days then rinse. And neutralize with baking soda and distilled water. Works great |
