The inside of my tailpipe is a bit sooty for a modern, fuel injected engine with a cat. I've pulled the plugs out and I've seen cleaner. The centre insulator and electrode is fine but around the bottom edge of the metal skirt is a bit black too.

Looking through the history, the plugs and air filter ere changed at 40,000 miles - 5,000 miles ago.

Sooty looking exhaust pipes became more evident when they removed the lead from the gasoline, everything I run is that way from my newer Subaru to my old I-H 140 tractor, yes the S'Wing too.

Sooty looking exhaust disappeared when cats came along and that was when lead disappeared. This is not quite BSA or JAP sooty but it's a lot dirtier than the inside of my mother's Mazda tailpipe which is the same vintage as my Silver Wing.

He's in Ireland bud, he's probably burning peat ( or as they say turf) that's a wee bit damp! 😷

No, she's burning neither turf nor oil.
