Hi Thomphoto, Notice, please, that it is spelled "Old", giving us the the respect that we (of a certain age) definitely deserve. People who have dimmed our lights, in the car, from the floor, spent and entire $10.00 during a fun weekend, and paid over 30 cents for a gallon of gas, need a bit of respect!! Truly, there is no explaining the simplicity of going for a ride, and not even taking our billfolds. We knew we would not need any money, or if we did, it'd be less than a dollar for a burger, drink, and a gallon of gas, for the bike. So, as you think back on those great days, try not to think about all the really stupid things we (of that certain age) did that should have allowed our parents to have a replacement child, cuz we were so stoopid, we killed ourselves having all that fun! happy birthday, and rsd, Ozarkred

30 cents for a gallon of gas? When I first graduated from a Cushman scooter in about 1938 to my first car which was a 1932 Chevy which cost me $40. I later sold it for $45 which was the only good I deal I've ever made on any car. I was working after school at a gas station and regular was 16 2/3 cents a gallon. Back then gas was priced in fractions instead of decimals. I would frequent the local burger joint and paid a quarter for a hamburger :lol!: After many years of bikes, competition, sport quads, etc, I am back on scooters and coming up on 86 years old so I guess what goes around comes around.

Yeah, I can remember prices like those. They sound good today but I also remember needing to get some friends together to go somewhere. I had to get friends to go along and chip in for gas even at 30-35 cents a gallon. I Also remember that I worked very hard delivering papers, setting pins in a bowling alley and pumping gas for darn little money. My first car was a 49 Chevy I paid $65 for. I had to buy a used transmission cover and used synchro rings from a junkyard before I could use second gear. I paid $2.00 for those parts. The car had no radio, heater or defrosters. The head liner was falling in, the paint was bad, the upholstery was pretty sad, it burned oil nearly as fast as gas and the car was only 9 years old with 20,000 miles. Yup I can remember those days. I prefer these days.

Kill Joy! Yeah, you are correct, however. The bikes are better, cars are better, and the roads are far better, than most of the roads in the 50's. But, 71 from Fort Smith to Fayetteville is still a quiet, unhurried, ride, and if you ant to 'git it" there are plenty of places to test ones roadability. I'm glad you can afford to ride a GW, but for my needs the Swing is absolutely perfect. nuf said, Ozarkred
