Subject: Is there an older FJS 600 Silverwing in the UK? Sun Sep 12, 2021 8:53 am
[13:41:30][X] FGB : My FJS 600 Silverwing was first registered in the UK on 20th October 2001, the first year they were on sale in the UK - it’s still used regularly on the road. I believe it might well be one of the oldest in the UK - are there any UK owners out there who might have an older one? Please do let me know. Any other owners in the Exeter UK area please do make contact. Thanks.

Thanks very much I appreciate your reply - that’s great to know - my old Silverwing seems to be a good survivor then and 1 of the 83 still on the road so will look to keep it going and going. Just had new drive belt and rollers and mot with just one small advisory. Thanks again, great bikes aren’t they.

Donnie - it’s got 77,918 miles on the clock as of today - I have heard reports of them doing a lot more. Whats your mileage. I’ve never been to Ireland so perhaps I might make it over on the Silverwing one day though now aged 65 I do get a few aches so tend to keep trips shorter. Thanks again.

Mine is a 2005 and has 85,000KM's on it, and with a bit of care they will go on and on.
Keep moving and don't let the few aches hold you back, I'm ten older.

Thanks for posting your mileage up FGB & Donie. It demonstrates these machines were designed and built right and have lots of life in them if you take care and properly maintain them. Same goes for taking care of yourselves ... lots of practical "mileage" left I'm sure.
Of the nine scooters we've owned, two have been Suzuki's, seven have been Honda's and of the Honda's, two was/is Silver Wings (previous 2005 and current 2009). No mechanical issues whatsoever with any of the Honda's beyond normal maintenance and replacing consumables (tires, drive belt etc.).

Mine is 2001 on a Y plate. Registered directly to the UK on 10/07/2001. Just coming up to 37000 miles.
It's had 4 keepers, I'm the 5th. I suspect it was stored for while somewhere along the line and it clearly had a tough life by a at least one negligent owner.
I didn't know anything SWs before I bought it, but I have certainly got to know it during my time, money and effort to bring it back to something like it's proper self. I know most of it's idiosyncrasies....and I gather the older SWs have plenty of those, but I would ride it to the south of France right now with no worries.

It only seems fitting that the oldest SW in the UK belongs the the oldest 'git' in the UK!
As for mileage, I've got some catching up to do.
It's an interesting topic.

Here's an old post from 2014 Hawkeye3guns
Hi Tim Bike was first registered 06/07/2002 in bristol , UK First MOT 07/07/2005 is missing but it seems from reciepts that the owner did a lot of touring around south europe. Second MOT on 31 /07 2006 @96,471 miles in Bedford , UK. Third Mot on 31/07 /2007 is missing, but reciepts put bike still in the Bedford area. Fourth MOT on 23 / 07 /2008 @113,750 miles in Coventry, uk. Fifth MOT on 08 /07 / 2009 @ 118,422 miles in Coventry, UK. Sixth MOT on 18 / 05 / 2010 @ 134,853 miles in Coventry, UK. Seventh MOT on 18 / 04 / 2011 @ 149,719 miles in Coventry, UK, Eight MOT on 19 / 03 / 2012 @ 163,245 miles in Coventry, UK. Ninth MOT on 19 / 02 / 2013 @ 172,375 miles in Coventry, UK. Bike involved in a accident and dropped at low speed damage to a lot of the panels only, but due to age and milage the insurance declared bike the bike a cat "C" write off, (replacing panels with new will cost more than bike estimated value). Bike is sold and new owner replaced panels with old second hand panels. and then put the bike bike on the road, Tenth MOT on 08 / 08 / 2014 @ 172,500 miles in Wigan, UK
My son bought the Silverwing on 16 / 09 / 2014 and I have since stripped the Swing fully down and checked it over and then rebuilt it with repaired panels and resprayed it in original colours, The Swing is now in my opinion back to a "as new" conditiion except for the milage. Contact with the previous last 3 owners indicates the engine has always been serviced and oil changed at 2,000 mile intervals so that is proberly why the engine has lasted so long, and still pulls so sweetly. The bike (including my son) has had a total of 5 owners from new, but in appears that the first owner is the one that put most of the miles on her. regards Denzil.
Not on road any more but some very high mileage for sure.

A quick Search reveals an old Silver Wing mileage poll from 2009, and even back then there were 4 Silver Wings that had covered between 750001 and 90000 miles. I doubt very much if the vast majority of members remember it, update it, or even know this poll exists.
I also recall that there was a British member on here around 2011 or 2012 who was handy with the spanners. He had bought a couple of early used Silver Wings as a Dad and Lad project, sorted them out mechanically and they both had mileages of 50000 or 60000 plus on them back then.
He was only on here for a short while so we never got to know more

Those figures shared by Mech 1 twa of the U.K. SW600 having covered 172,500 mile = 277,611.84 km.
That is quite some testament to what they are capable of achieving.
It also poses the thought that they possibly 'season' themselves better by being in constant use, rather than parked in an air-conditioned garage.
Upward and onward, keep them doggies rollin rawhide......yeehaa

Morning everyone, I like your question about our SW's and where would be the oldest, stille running SW antwhere in the World.
I own a SW who was registered in the Netherlands on 05-07-2001 In 2020 she became my pride & Joy, the pervious owner, whom I bought her from, had given her an other overhauled engine. So the bike has now 97.700 km on the clock and the engine has 24.000 km, registered kilometers.
Have a great Day

It certainly is. That's Gold Wing territory.

It's no secret that a driven, higher mileage vehicle that is well maintained is a much better buy than a low mileage Garage Queen that has sat largely unused.

Darn it! Beaten by five days..uugh. My log book has two dates: DATE FIRST REGISTERED and DATE FIRST REGISTERED IN THE UK, They are both the same.
It's interesting to hear about an engine change. Didn't think the SW would need one, barring a catastrophic failure....unlikely?

Hello Loosemarbles,
The engine was badly manitaind by the first owner and the man I bought it from was a bike mechanic. He fitted an engine from BoonstraParts.com that's a specialist company in used parts. He did this during covid as a father and son project.
The km's of this engine are registerd and she rides like a dream.
The way I got to know my SW and after everything I learnt about this wonderfull maxi-scooter on this forum, makes me so proud 2 own such a beautifull and wonderfull maxi scooter.
I got lucky with my SW at first, nice flatblack color and in a good condition engine wise. With alle the info from here and the manuals I found on the Interweb and the info from several Facebook groups and with the help of all the Carolus YouTube video's I can do most of the service to her nu myself.
And last April I had the oppertunity and the great luck to buy a compleet set original fearings in Candy Wineberry Red.
So now I'm the proud owner of a unique SW, in the 15 months I have her, we made close to 15.000 km. My SW even has a small "limited edition" bage on the dash 🤫, gift from the Mrs
Oké I went to the dealer and gave her a set of new tyres and had the front forks rebuild. All the other service like the belt, rollers, filters, engine and fear oils, front & rear brakes + oils I can now do myself. I have decided that I will never sell her, the things I can get here in Europe, in good condition and sometimes die a Nice price, she will by with me as long I can rode her. I'm now 58 so plenty of years ahead of great fun on my SW.
Have a great evening [Dutch time 🤫]

Sounds like you've got a gem there. I remember being able to buy a set of rear brake pads for my SW from the Honda dealer in Leuven, Belgium, off the shelf. Unheard of in the UK..I think.
I love riding on the continent

Most parts for your service are generally, reasonably available in the Netherlands. Otherwise you can very well get the parts online or at the local dealer.
