I had my 2008 SWing converted over to a trike in 2018 with a Motor Trike kit and have no regrets. I only lost 3-4 mpg on the road and I get almost 40 mpg in town with stop and go riding. It took a bit of practice riding to get used to it but now it's second nature.

Different set up altogether than a trike. Both the Peugeot Metroplis 400 and the Yamaha Tricity 300 are three wheeled maxi scooters with two wheels on the front with tilting mechanisms that allow them to corner like a conventional scooter.

The Piaggio MP3 as well as the Peugeot and Yamaha mentioned here all have two wheels up front and lean like a regular bike. Are there others? Is one “better” at this than the others? I assumed the Peugeot and Yamaha were knock offs of the Piaggio.

Why don't you do a bit of research on whether the Tricity and Metropolis are knock offs of the Piaggio MP3. You'll find out the Tricity has a variation of the front suspension system fitted to the Yamaha Niken motorcycle. While Peugeot doesn't have to copy anyone for technical innovation, they have the benefit of utilising features first developed for Peugeot cars.

AND the Yamaha is probably a lot more reliable than Italian. I would think the French on is, too.

Piaggio electrics were considered by many Piaggio owners and dealers to be the product of Italian cottage industry; no one wiring loom match another, certainly in terms of colour-coding. X9 owners with whom I am still in contact have worked out alternative electrical parts (stators and so on) over twenty years or so but I'd not consider buying even a brand new Piaggio scooter.
