| I use synthetic in all my cars and the bikes. The only difference between synthetic and conventional oil is that the long chain hydrocarbons are more uniform in a synthetic product versus conventional oil. Whatever you use as long as it is of the right viscosity should be absolutely fine (the truth is if you do the oil changes at the appropriate time/mileage interval, conventional oil is actually just fine- synthetic is better for cars that run at higher temperatures such as cars with turbo chargers which can cause coking of the burned oil on the metal parts of the engine however, if it is a normally aspirated vehicle that runs at more normal temperatures, this coking should not apply). The truth if you do the oil changes at the appropriate time/mileage interval, conventional oil is actually just fine) I have even read that the oil that they sell at Costco (Kirkland brand) and Walmart (Supertech) is actually very good oil (I believe both produced by Warren Distribution, Inc.). Sometimes you’re paying for a name like Mobil 1 or Castrol but you have to use what you are comfortable with using. It is all still from base oil from the ground. The word synthetic makes it seem man made but this is not necessarily true. |

| Thanx Scooter Rider for taking the time to explain. I already bought the synthetic so I'll go ahead and use it but in the future I may take the economical route. |

| Its great for gearboxes too, so perfect for the SWing lol
I bought a TMax for fun that was broken and it turned out the geezer who sold it had put motor car oil in it which caused it to burn the clutch out. The sad thing is that the dealership he took it to told him the engine was toast.......a few hours with the spanners, clutch kit and some 10/40 oil and it was and has been running purrrrrfect since. |

| Erdoc48 thank you. I always find this subject interesting. With my Goldwing 1500 Trike I always used Semi Synthetic. But must say in all the years I have been riding bikes [ since 1959] That has to be the best explanation of oil [ jmho] i almost understood all of it lol [ just kidding] Â Thanks again. |

| I have a quart of Pennzoil full synthetic and it states on the container "Made from Natural Gas". I always believed it was refined from petroleum like scores of other products. |
