PostSubject: Jumping out of an airplaine   Jumping out of an airplaine I_icon_minitimeWed Apr 21, 2010 11:19 am

This weekend is going to be fantastic.
I am turning 62 years old and am having my 40th university on the same day.
Yea, to the same woman.
My older that is an immigration attorney, and bought a house near San Francisco ( Lafayette)
My two sons and I are going to jump out of an airplane to celebrate. How much more fun can one person have at this stage of his life? Jumping out of an airplaine Affraid

A very happy birthday John. I, too, live in Lafayette (Colorado) and an old friend (a pilot) once said "I can't understand jumping out of a perfectly good airplane". I agree, but applaud your choice.

The other response to that is:
"...there is no such thing as a perfectly good airplane, just a bunch of airplane parts flying in tight formation"

John, I envey you. I am nearing 66years old and had a jump scheduled for mid June. However certain events have changed that. Great that you still enjoy a little adventure in life. Happy birthday & Anniversary.

I fly airplanes. I will never jump out of one unless it's on the ground. If there's a problem, I'm riding it down!

John,

I did a tandem jump a few years ago and it was a blast. I would have taken the 6 hour course to jump by myself, except for 2 jump masters, but it looked like rain and I didn't want to take the entire course and have it cancelled due to rain.

But it was a blast. We went up to around 15,000' and the best part of the jump was the falling/flying, and then the chute opened. It was ok but not as fun as falling. Have fun and be the first one out. I asked if I could be first and it was so much fun. You can get a video made too if you want. It is cool to go back and watch later.

For those of you with the desire, but not the guts to go skydiving,
I suggest you try "indoor skydiving".
There are places in California, Texas, & Nevada,
and I'm sure many other areas if you look.
Some names of these places are "I Fly" or "Fly Away" or something similar.

Each one consists of a round room with a metal mesh trampoline.
The tramp is about 10 feet in diameter.
Then their are two feet of cushions before you get to the wall.
The walls are also cushioned.
Beneath the Trampoline, is a jet engine, blowing a column of air upward.
It blows between 80 and 120 mph, and that is what holds you up.

First you see an instructional video, and then sign your life away.
Then you get a suit, shoes, gloves, goggles, and ear plugs,
You go in with an instructor who will help you out.

The one I went to in Las Vegas, gives you 3 1-minute sessions, and
believe me that is plenty. It really is strenuous activity, and you will be
exhausted when you are done.

Real skydiving is actually easier, but the techniques are the same.
Once you have mastered control indoors, you can have more fun jumping
from a real plane.

Also real skydiving is very quiet relaxing and peaceful.
Once out of the plane you only hear the slight woosh, and your hearbeat!

Dan

A few years ago when I owned a small plane, I considered taking a stunt flying course to hone my skills. I was informed I needed to first take skydiving lessons. THAT was a deal breaker.
