Dear Friends... Quick question... There's too much play in my throttle. How do you tighten it? Thanks. --Scott in Maine

Throttle Grip Free Play Specification is 2 - 6 mm / 1/16 - 1/4 in. Check the maintenance section of the service manual - Chapter 3, Throttle Operation

Throttle free play, acording to the shop manual is 1/16" to 1/4". Adjusting done by the cable adjusters located just under the throttle housing. I hope this helps.

I just tightened mine last weekend. Not too bad at all. Mine was loose also. I tightened it 2 full turns. You want to adjust the top cable. First, You need to remove 7 screws. 5 of these screws are for the side panels (3 on left and 2 on right) that are located around the seat rim and one on the bottom of left side, and 2 of them are for the cover under the seat. Second, you will need to remove the 2 large phillip screws holding the center cover. Once the screws are removed, slightly pull out the side covers, just a little bit, as the center cover fits under the side panels. The cover under the seat also snaps in place, so, you need to slide the cover back towards the rear of the scooter, then pull up on it. The front pins kinda hook in place. Let us know how you make out.

Let us know how you make out. This really sounds like overkill to me. If you look at the underside of the throttle, there are two cable housings that extend from the throttle. You will see there is a rubber boot about one inch from the throttle. Slide it down along the cable and you will expose a barrel adjuster or nut with a locknut. Loosen the locknut, adjust the barrel with your fingers (to take up slack, unscrew the barrel adjuster), then tighten the nut. Slide rubber boot back in place. Done. You should not have to remove any body panels. |
