| Hi,
I was just on another Silver Wing forum, www.silverwing.org site, and I just found out that he doesn't allow competing sites...like this one... to be mentioned on his site. I read a post where a very active member of this site posted something about the dark side tire and mentioned this site/link. The owner took the link down since he considers this a competing site.
The reason I mention this is so nobody on this site thinks that I don't allow competing sites to be mentioned here. I encourage all posts concerning the Silver Wing so please feel free to mention any links, posts etc. of any scooter or motorcycle site. Really, you can mention any link you want if it is a legitamate site...no porn, or immorral sites please.
There are many members on this site that also frequent the other site. I just want as much Silver Wing information as possible here. So feel free to mention any Silver Wing or scooter site you want here.
Other sites that I know of:
www.silverwing.org
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/hondasilverwings/ http://www.silverwing.it/
The last link is for a huge Silver Wing site in Italy. They had a Silver wing ride once where 3,000 SWing riders showed up.
These are both very good sites with plenty of info.
Thanks. |

| When I 'arrived' here I was jolly careful not to bang on about my previous maxi or the dedicated site for that marque of which I am still a member and which, incidentally, has opened its doors to all maxi-riders. However, Jeff made it very clear that it was not a problem so to do. As a result, at least one UK Silverwinger here has been drawn into a maxi group in the UK with whom he can meet and ride regularly and has become a good friend of mine. I feel very much 'at home' here - it's a club as far as I'm concerned and the forum is our clubhouse, a place where riders can meet and chat about all sorts of things although in reality we are scattered over thousands of miles. A thousand thanks, Jeff especially, and everyone for creating a haven of niceness for us all. |

I had posted the direct site name and the site name was automatically changed to "********" during the post which made it invalid. I then edited the post and switched the link to a tinyurl, which the owner edited the post and removed not just the tiny url but the whole paragraph which was key to the discussion at hand. I appreciate the fact that we can freely discuss and post references to anything pertinent on this forum. |

| Thanks guys. I didn't post this to say anything bad about the site but just to make sure you all know you can mention and encourage other sites. I still go to that site and that is how I found out about his rules. So please continue to go there since they do have good info. Dan Spevak, a member here, used to be a moderator there and posted many links/info. I just like these scoots and I'm not in competition with anyone or any site. And I didn't want to mention your name Bill since I didn't want you get you involved with anything that would make you uncomfortable. I did do the cut and paste about the "google search" you recommended and that's how I found out. Thanks. |

| I visit the other site (www.silverwing.org) and they sometimes have interesting things going on. I think Dan (dspevack, Dan is not the owner) has done a great job of collecting a lot of custom parts providers and links to them. I prefer this site as it is easier to follow threads here and things don't go so off track - not because of heavy handed moderation - it just seems folks do a fair job of policing them selves. I do not have 1.5 million miles of experience so you can take what I say as you see fit.. |

| Not to defend the other site but just to explain exactly what is going on there:
The site owner is a militant believer in the following: 1. Open source software, including the board software. 2. No advertising on his site. 3. Not supporting advertising, even indirectly.
Linking to boards which are funded by advertising, is in his mind indirectly supporting advertising. I pointed out that the purpose of the site was to link people with a common interest, however he made it clear that the above 3 beliefs were more important, even if it meant not being part of an international web ring or brotherhood of sites.
I should also point out that the cost of running the site without advertising is exclusively his. He doesn't even take donations. He is an IT professional that also does his own maintenance. But bandwidth costs money. If he had other boards around the world linking to his site, his traffic would go up dramatically, and so would his costs, and the amount of time he would have to devote to it. He did indicate to me that he was happy with the size of his board and that it was manageable both personally and financially.
I now prefer this board because it is more about Silverwings than finances or making a point regarding open source and advertising. Thank you Jeff for keeping it that way.
Since the information in the Parts & Accessories section there is for all Silverwingers, there is no reason it cannot be duplicated here for the convenience of this board's members, but it would be a lot of work to do so, and I think a mass duplication of the information on this site should be the decision of this site's top dog, JeffR, not me.
I still believe in the Silverwing community, regardless of forum, and contribute when I can here, at .org, and at .it.

I have also had problems with that site. I think the rules are often applied in a very selective manner; it seems that some folks can mention the brand name of a product (say Givi) and yet others have their posts either edited or removed. After a long and pointless discussion I have decided to vote with my keyboard and mouse and only use this forum - the management is much more friendly ! The end result is he doesn't have me as a contributor (and that doesn't bother him much I suppose) but his visitors miss out on those odd occasions when I might contribute something useful . Thanks Jeff! Regards, Peter |

| Dan, I will probably start to use some of the "massive" amount of info you have placed on the site. It is really something what is available out there for the Swing. I don't need to worry about the money part since this site only costs from $100 to $200 a year and there are sites using this kind of "phpBB" with over 10,000 members so I don't think we should run into bandwidth problems here. Peter, Thanks for the nice words about this site. I just don't feel in competition with anyone or any site so I welcome any knowledge/info about the SWing. I just hope that all the members enjoy the site and contribute when possible. The other site has a lot of good info and I do go there still to look around. Thanks. |
