| Hello peeps. I'm new here, and currently not a silverwing owner but am currently seeking out the right one. Just wanted to know if everyone thought that a 2002 silverwing in very good condition with 30k on the clock for £1,700 is a good deal? Is the engine still good after 30k? What sort of Milage should be expected of the average silverwing? I wait to hear your thoughts. Thanks very much.
I wait to hear your thoughts. |

| Leeboy,
If the bike has been cared for 30K is not that big a deal for a bike as capable as the SilverWing. As for how far they ultimately can go - there is at least one with more than 125K out there. I know of a few with 60K+ and they are not experiencing any issues.
They are mechanical and subject to failure, but Honda seems to have worked out most of the problems. |

| Hi mate. Thanks for the reply. So you think that 30k is ok? It has service history for it's first few Years. I've looked at it and it's very clean and tidy. No rust anywhere, all it has is a couple of very small stone chips. Maybe I've found the right one. Any tips for a new silverwing owner? Thanks alot. |

30,000 Km == 18,641 miles
That is still very low miles.

| Thanks for the replys guys. It's actually 30,000 miles not kilometres. Do you still think it'll be ok? Is that a lot for a twin engine? The only reason I worry is because I'm going to be using it every day for the commute to work, a 35 mile round trip and the occasional bit of touring at the weekend and i don't what to be looking for a new one in a years time. Thanks alot. |

I have 48,450 miles ... I have 22 months of the Honda extended warranty. As some have already said, Dr Mike had over 137,000 befhore he sold his. I will not be surprised if it reaches 150,000 - 200,000 or beyond. If you decide to sell it later ... I doubt you lose a lot of money. |

| In the unscientific poll on this very site: https://www.silverwing600.com/polls-section-f17/silver-wing-mileage-in-miles-t775-15.htm#13630 There are at least 5 people who have 30K+ miles on their bike. That's a small percentage of the membership, but it does show that the bike has some longevity. While the silverWing employs some sophisticated technology, it is still a simple bike that uses proven technology. Honda has a reputation for engineering and reliability and that is not created out of thin air. I do not think there is much to be concerned about with a bike that age with those few miles. Now how an owner could have it that long and not put more miles on - there's an area of concern. |

| Thanks for all the replys. Very helpful. I just wanted to let you all know that last night I picked up the silverwing and I am in love. It's an amazing machine. Dunno why i waited so long to get one. It's what I thought it would be but so much more and i'm so glad that all the gleaming reviews I've read have turned out to be true. Also it turns out the bike has fsh with a Honda dealer, the guy wasn't sure so he didn't advertise it with service history but when he checked all the paper work there it was. The Honda booklet all stamped up to 25,000 miles! It also has the manual & tool kit under the seat, a 12v socket fitted in the lockable dash pocket and a handy switch that allows me to turn the main halogens off when the ignitions on. I absolutely love it! Thanks for all your help answering my questions.
From a very happy now silverwing owner. |

| Thanks alot. So pleased with it. I have a couple of questions if that's ok? Firstly my clock on the dash keeps resetting itself everytime I turn the ignition off? Any ideas on how to solve this? The trip A & trip B are constantly reading 0. Not sure how get them working. Any ideas would be great? Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement silverwing badge from the rear panel as half the S is missing on one side of the bike. Oh and lastly the bulb under the seat no longer works and I wondered if a replacement is available? Thanks a lot. Sorry for all the question? Cheers. |

| Oh and also there's a bit of vibration when pulling away that buzzes the plastic and is slightly annoying. Even after mentioning all the points I'm still chuffed with it I just wanna iron out a few small niggles so if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks a lot. |

| Leeboy, the bulb under the seat probably does not work because it likely has been removed. If the seat is not latched properly, the bulb stays on and runs the battery down. I suggest that you leave it out and carry a flashlight.
Vibration upon takeoff is typical. Lighter weights in the variator (search for "dr pulley" or "j costa") reduces the shudder and helps take-off. Also, if you remove the belt cover (black plastic piece that goes from motor to rear wheel) and wipe away any dust that you see, it may help. There is a pictorial on this site that details the steps necessary to remove the belt cover and to change the variator weights.
I do not know why the trip meters and clock do not retain in the memory. I am sure someone will chime in soon.
congrats on the new ride. you will probably enjoy it more the longer you own it.
Philip

| Thanks for the advice Phil. I've solved 3 problems all in one. Turns out that rather than just taking the bulb out of the underseat light. The previous owner removed the fuse that worked the bulb but also is the back up for the dash memory. I took the bulb out and re connected the fuse and all is up and running now! Result! Thanks for your help.
So you don't think I need to worry about the shudder then? It's only happens from tickover. It makes all the plastics buzz and sounds quite loud from where I'm sitting. As long as it's not a mechanicial fault then it can wait 1500 miles for it's next service. Thanks alot, |
