| OK, this may give some of you a laugh or you may just think I'm must be a real idiot (or maybe both), but over the past couple of months I have felt like the performance of my wing has gradually declined. It just didn't seem to have quite the quickness off the line and mid-range passing acceleration. My bike just didn't seem to jump into the power band like it used to. It would get up to 5,500 rpms, but it took longer to hit 6,300 rpms where the maximum horse power kicks in. Even the top end seemed a bit lower. It would still hit triple digits, but it just seemed to take longer to get there. My fuel economy seemed to be about the same, in fact the past couple of tanks have been back up in the 48 mpg to 49 mpg range, and I just cleaned out the air filter, so I was thinking it might be that my spark plugs need changing. I have over 17,000 miles on them.
So last night on my way home I was stopped at a light and I started fiddling around with the grip on the throttle. I had heated grips installed last Christmas and apparently they must not have secured them properly, because I found that the grip had rotated about 45 degrees on the throttle handle. So I was able to reverse rotate the grip back to its proper position and when the light turned green and I cranked it open, I was launched off the line with that old snap that we all know and love. It was as though I had found a whole new gear. So anyways, I had to laugh at myself for not noticing that before, but I sure am glad that I finally figured it out and it didn't cost me anything to fix. Anyone got some glue?? or chewing gum? or duct tape?
