| 1) Use an impact wrench. I wouldn't attempt this job without one.
2) IIRC they did 'fly off' but they didn't fly far. You can keep pressure on the cap with the impact wrench, but as soon as the last thread of off, you will probably be holding the wrench at a slight angle and the parts will fly in the opposite direction. Wear safety glasses!
3) It is a little difficult, but not really too bad. This is the advantage of the impact wrench - you can put your weight on the parts to compress the spring and let the impact wrench do the tightening. The impact wrench really makes it easier.
4) After I got the caps back on with the impact wrench I tightened them with the torque wrench. Again - have a helper there to hold the forks while you work on them.
5) I re-used the old bolts.
Take your time, use an impact wrench, have a helper, wear safety glasses. Have a clean surface where you can lay the parts out in the order they are disassembled. That will help you reassemble in the proper order.
It's not that difficult. If you can change oil, you can change the fork springs.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Mike H.

Hi Terry I removed the Fork cap this way- With the fork legs removed I wrapped the end of the leg with masking tape then fitted two Jubilee clips (hose clips) onto the leg.The fork leg was then put in a vice using the heads of the clips to hold it,the caps came off easily then, also used this method to refit and torque the caps. When removing the pinch bolts holding the fork legs I used a short reach 14mm socket which gave a bit more room to undo bolts and same when torqueing them up. Hope this helps Wal.

Um... silly question cos I tend to be ignorant of a lot of the mechanics of bikes... what do the Hyperpro springs do?

Primarily they reduce front end dip on stopping, reduce how much of a pothole you feel, and generally give you a significant improvement in both feel and handling. Its one of the first upgrades we recommend to new silverwingers, right up there with adding lighting, changing the windscreen, and changing the interior light switch. Dan

I agree with dave. Just be careful when putting the fork cap back on so you dont crossthread the cap. i did not use an impact wrench for the above reason. It can be done. maxB
