Have an 05 with ABS, what do I need to know about using? Have two cages with ABS but, it is new for me on two wheeler. Want to practice, but can't find an 18 wheeler to pull out in front of me yet.

I have ABS on my Silverwing. It certainly helps with emergency braking but I need some training in steering under heavy braking, the advantage of ABS. I doubt many riders/drivers have the nerve to use it for what it's really for.

Gary, My first ABS was on a R1100RT, and I only needed it once. That once will convince you. Maybe I would have been able to stop without it, but I could feel it engage and that bike stopped FAST. I've had ABS ever since. If you want a way to test/try it, I read a European test of the NT700V (Deauville). The test was done by an individual, and it was probably the most complete test I have ever read, including from the big name moto-journalists. His method was to go out and find a nice, smooth manhole cover. He would get up a head of steam, approach the cover straight up, and hit the brakes hard just prior to crossing the cover. He said that the ABS engaged as soon as the cover was encountered, worked as it should, and disengaged once the tire got back on normal pavement. I'm not sure that I have the guts to do that, but I thought it was a clever way to test it/experience it in a relatively risk free way.

Do you grip both brake handles and squeeze hard equally? Right now with only two wheels, I don't have the (I forget what Sarah Palin called them yesterday) cahullas to do the man hole thing on pavement. I still can shut my eyes and feel my last bike sliding out from under me. When I get the triking done, I should feel more comfortable. BUT, until then if I ride, and I am a little, I want to know what to do in an emergency. Pump or Lock em....

I just slam on the brakes! IIRC the BMW test is to take the bike up to some silly speed and when you come to a bend, brake hard but still follow the bend. "After you, Claude"

Hey Opal, if you trike the Swing the ABS may not work anymore. I doesn't work in Goldwing trikes. My dealer sells a lot of trikes and tells customers that it won't. He out to know. MaxB
