| Ok, this is waaaay off topic, but I have a Ninja that got knocked over. The left handle bar broke off and the bike is still "in gear". I can't roll it, or engage the clutch. It won't start. Is there some way to get it into neutral that I don't know about? |

| You should be able to shift it with the engine not running. turn the key on so you can see the neutral light and cycle through the gears. |

| The clutch lever or the clutch plate? If it is the lever - you should still be able to shift the bike when it is not running. May not be easy, but should be possible. |

| I honestly don't know. I am assuming it's broken because the handlebar broke. It's just a-dangling from the fork. You squeeze it and nothing happens other than a little bit of a hand work-out. How do you change gears without the clutch? |

| With your foot! Just shift as if the clutch were working. |

| You won't be able to ride the bike - not without full handle bars, but you should be able to find neutral and then push the bike onto a truck. |

| I tried holding the clutch lever in and shifting with my foot and couldn't find neutral (or at least the dummy light didn't light up), then I tried just shifting with my hand on the foot lever and couldn't find neutral either |

| Hi Peach,
Have you tried to sitting on the bike, turn the key to ON, and gently rock the bike forward and back while using your foot to try to shift the bike into neutral. |

Sure, I wouldn't want to confuse concern with rudeness. I don't know how to change gears in a car without using a clutch either. Perhaps, after 20 years of driving, I should take a basic car course? Why pay for something that you can get for free on the internet? I probably do ask a lot of ignorant questions but I always try to do so pleasantly and with tact and I assume most people enjoy helping out. I really appreciate all the advice I've gotten on this forum, technical or not. There is more knowledge and concern on this board than in any basic motorcycle course that I plan on utilizing and encouraging others to do so as well. Thank you for your concern, but at this time, my plate is full. |

| Peach you ought to know by now that some of us will do our best to help you even though we ourselves haven't the slightest idea about what we are talking about. In my worthless opinion you went about things in the right manor got the answer you needed and all for the price of taking time to read the good with the bad.Not ever one is as good at some things as others are, and taking the basic motorcycle course didn't tell me how to change gears with a broken clutch handle or anything of that nature. Take the good advice and ignore people like me who might not help any at all. Craig |

| Craig,
Some times...All it takes is a friend and the words...We'll get it done together.
That's what forums are all about. |
