| Hi folks!
My name is Jim & I have a '07 Silverwing that I bought after selling my '94 GW (which I now regret).
Anyway, after nearly buying a '10 GW today, or perhaps a '07 (20K & 27K OTD, respectively), I decided to just keep the SW for now and be 20-27K less in debt, with 5 years of NO payments instead of $372/mo or $510/mo. So I'm going to start riding my scooter again more often & introduce my wife to the sport. We may get a GW later, and before that I think we will get a Russell All-Day seat.
We live in the "South Bay" of Los Angeles, near Palos Verdes and Redondo Beach.
Jim

| Hi Jim,
Welcome to the forum. I went fishing a bunch of times off those big rocks that make up the Redondo Beach boat harbor. Now that sure was allot of fun.
Again, Welcome |

Russell is only 562 miles from your area ... you could even do a one-day ride in service. |

| At least you are on the right track. Even though Hollister is closer to home, don't even bother going there. Ride the extra miles, go to Shasta Lake and have the BEST aftermarket seat. :flower: |

| Hi, jimmyjohn! New ride versus bank payments; that's a tough one. The best ride is usually the one that's paid for, but it's so tempting when something exciting comes on the market or into the showroom! |

| It was tempting until I came to my senses. There's no hurry here for me....I'va had 3 GW's & haven't really given the SW much attention lately. In the Southern California traffic, the SW is much more practical anyway. I can always save up some money and get a used GL1800 later, letting someone else take the 7-9K hit of taxes+depreciation. I think I would keep the SW, as they serve different purposes. I think I'll get that Russell seat & try some short touring with it. I never rode more than 1/2 or 3/4 day anyway on the GW's. Perhaps with a good seat there will be no need for a GW.
With the help of you guys, I'm even gunna change my own oil & save about $80. on that (each change)! |

That's a familiar feeling. I stopped by a Honda dealership yesterday, looking at youth off-road motorcycles for my daughters. Closing time was approaching, but my path out the door took me past a 2010 Silver Wing. Goodness, it took more time for gazing and admiring than I realized before continuing on my way out the door. I wanted it, but I didn't want it. At least one of those is certainly true. |

| Well I bought mine ('07) on Craigslist & was very fortunate/blessed because it was showroom-quality after dusting and a new battery, and it was 5K. It had just 1500 miles on it, and it came with 2 jackets, helmets, gloves & 1 cover. The seller said he and his wife bought it for a little over 10K OTD. He had not ridden before, did not take the MSF course, and started riding it on So CA freeways & carpool lanes (dangerous even for the most experienced rider).
It's easy to get caught up on the showroom bikes, but we have not the cash to buy anything & we have the credit but do not want the payments!
So I shall forget the GW for now, get a Russell seat & stay a SW rider! |

| Seems like very few people on this forum bought their Swing new from a dealer.
Generalizing, I guess it's the nature of forum users. |

| Well I think besides, perhaps, being the nature of forum users, at $8799. + tax there's a lot of choices. Even on the GW it's still a toss-up whether to get a brand new one at 7-8K more OTD or to let someone else take that hit.
I just noticed that the MSRP price on 2011/2010 GW is "TBD". Did they move the production like they did the GW? |

| Jim, If it makes you feel any better, there are enough aftermarket accessories for the Silverwing, that it can do pretty much anything a goldwing can...at half the cost and weight, and without shifting. Check out the link in my sig and you will see.
