| Hello Forum Members and Silverwing riders. I'm Mike in Columbus,OH...long time motorcycle rider and convert to maxi-scoots. Glad to finally join this site...I've followed JeffR's commentary for some time on the Yamaha Majesty site.
I currently ride an '07 Majesty but have a chance to purchase an '07 Swing ABS model with 4200 mi. The dealer is asking mid $5K range and is located 3 hours away. Haven't gone to see it yet but talked to the sales manager and looked at online pics. Any thoughts and caveats are welcomed by all you who've been here before!
Thanks in advance and greetings to all. Mike |

| Mike,
Welcome to the forum - enjoy the ride.
The best price is the one you are willing to pay. As for what to look for - fun. |

| Welcome Mike... Jeff has built this into a fantastic forum. Discussion on a wide variety of subjects will come up. Add to them at any time.
Wait for more expert advice on the 07. But the price in mid $5K range seems just a little high to me. You will get better advice from others here. Silverwings are WORTH a mint, but you can find real bargains if you are patient and shop around.
Dale is one of the experts. Listen to him. |

| Thanks for the welcome notes. I agree Opalsboy that the price for the '07 seems high...dealers often set the asking price too high I've found. And I appreciate the note about waiting for expert advice. There are things specific to the Silverwing that I know I'm not aware of at the moment...even with a two-wheeled background.
Thanks for your input! Mike

| At 4,200 miles - the rear tire may be at 1/2 of it's life. Really hard to say with confidence because tire life is very subjective. But, it seems that many who post here are getting rear tire life of around 8,000 - 9,000 miles.
The current asking price seems a bit high unless it fits within your budget and you don't care to wait for the next one...
There really are few "other shoes to drop" items associated with the bike. Many don't care for the stock screen and change it out, (my wife and I are still riding with the stock screens). The stock saddle can begin to grate after around 400 miles or so, we had ours reupholstered and like the result.
The lack of a 12v power port (American market) is a minor pain. Stock horn is - as all are - anemic. Light under the seat will stay on when seat is open - can drain battery overnight. |

| Mike,
Welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it. Here is a link to the Kelley Blue Book:

It seems the price isn't too high if it is mid 5,000 but I still think you should be able to talk them down. After having a Majesty, and they are very nice scoots, I think you should really like the SWing. Like Dale mentioned about the screen you would probably need to change it out . I have the Givi Airflow and it is the best in my opinion. I have had the stock, Givi, and Clearview with the vent and like the Airflow the best. If you have the extra cash when buying one it is a good choice. I wrote up a review of it on the site too.
Mirror extensions help alot too but they are only about $15 on ebay. DennisB makes great things too for the SWing if you need a GPS mount, a mount for extra lights, trailer hitch, and arm rests. He makes top quality stuff.
Good luck with the price and hope to hear of you riding a SWing soon. If not, you still have a great scoot. The Majesty is a really smooth ride. |

| Thanks everyone for the thoughtful replies!
A slow inspection will tell a lot...a test ride even more. I read your evaluation of the Givi Airflow screen Jeff and it was well done. I think the dealer would be flexible as they quit selling Hondas in January to focus solely on their Harley line...go figure!
Ride safe everyone! Mike |

| Welcome Mike, don't know if $5k is a lot for a 'Wing' across the pond. I do know that my 'Wing' is worth every penny I paid for it. Love it to bits.
Good or bad weather I don't need an excuse for a ride on it.
As a stock scooter it is great and has the ability to be customised as much as you are prepared to spend both time and money, the result is a great bike.
Have fun. |
