I concur with Dennis' observation.
Let's face it, it wasn't broke 'till you fix'd. Assuming that the Fixed Pulley sheave is on straight & not cockeyed (which is easy to do if you're using a power gun), most likely one of the Slider Pieces fell out or one of the Roller Weights got twisted in its track.
If you've got 38K miles on the scoot those Slider Pieces are pretty worn & loose and very prone to falling off when the Variator is taken off the crank shaft.
So here's my suggestion: Order some Dr Pulley Sliders or Roller weights and order their Slider Pieces at the same time. Meanwhile, bite the bullet and pull the variator to double check everything. I certainly wouldn't ride the scoot under the conditions that you've described --yeah it will come apart and destroy something far more expensive and hard to get than you'd care to deal with.
And oh yeah, welcome to the asylum too
