I replaced my regular NGK plugs twice at about 9,000 miles. I have 42,000 miles on my NGK Iridium plug now. |

I have 42,000 miles on my NGK Iridium plugs now. I replace my NGK Iridium spark plugs at 53,550 miles. The spark plug gap definitely increased, if I get a chance I will measure later) The RPM idle speed jumped by ~300 RPM ( just changing the spark plugs ), bringing me back to normal RPM range. I did not want to adjust the RPMs till I replaced the spark plugs. Based on the results I observed, I will replace my NGK Iridium spark plugs in the 40,000 - 45,000 miles ranges next time to determine the optimal NGK Iridium lifetime. |

| Vmaximus, I changed to Iridium plugs at 8,000mls service(Iridium plugs were same price as NGK ordinary plugs) at 16,000mls i checked them and they were okay. Performance wise, no difference that i could comment on. However, as people are saying you get 50,000ml + out of them why not fit them? |

| If you look at Honda cars fitted with iridium plugs, they quote 75000 miles before changing them. For an extra few pounds (proper money) it can't be a bad deal. |

| About to do 32,000ml service, Still getting 64mpg,(imperial gallon) so the iridium plugs i put in at 8,000mls are still doing thier job, well worth the money. |

| I've started doing fuel calculations again recently and yesterday I put 12.04 litres in with 168.7 miles on the trip recorder and two bars on the fuel gauge still black.
That's 63.7 mpg Imp, or 53.04 mpg US, and I'm on the standard NGK plugs. Being caught up in heavy roadworks and traffic around York and in Harrogate on a pie and mash ride over to Skipton a couple of days before I went off to Sweden dropped the previous fill up down to 58.45 mpg Imp. |

| A spark plug needs to give a blue spark.
They both do this fine.( the ordinary and the iridium )
Better MPG ? Why?
I don't believe it. |

| Not sure they can give better mileage. My scoot gets superb mileage already; 56-58 mpg US. My reason for switching is to avoid having to replace them at 8K intervals. I can't understand Honda even recommending 8K changes in this date and time... Most cars can now go 100K w/o plug change. |

| Servicing and the spares/replacements are where the dealers make all their profits as there is very little margin on the sales side. I have this from the horse's mouth as it were, that's why I'm in cosiderable doubt as to whether to have the 12,000 mile 'inspection' service which seems to only involve changing the air cleaner and a good coat of 'looking at' !!!

| I'm running the same standard NGK plugs that I put in at 7,50 miles. I've got over 46,250 on it now, so 38,750 miles on the standard NGK plugs. It runs good and I get 46 to 54 Mpg. it depending on how I'm riding and if I'm using winter blend fuel. |
