Is there any difference between the variator belts of the 400 and the 600 models?
i know that they have different part numbers on honda web site, but was wondering - did someone make the comparison?

| On ebay some sellers offer belts for Silver Wing 400-600. But i don't thrust them and choose the original 600 Honda OEM Belt, if i order them vom italy the price of the oem belt is nearly the same like the "cheap" belt on ebay and i can be sure that it is the correct one |

| I was riding today in Branson, MO and the traffic was INSANE. We were in stop and go 2mph traffic for a long time pulling hills at just a little more than an idle. The V belt started overheating because of this. We were riding 2up so we finally pulled over and ate lunch and wasted 2 hours and let it cool off. It did fine for the return journey back to our cabin in Eureka springs, AR but it got me to wondering about the belt. Obviously I need to get it replaced as soon as I can, but I was wondering if there was a replacment that a guy could get at someplace like O'reileys or Autozone or something that you could get on the fly. Anybody got any ideas or experience in this area? |

| Are you sure that it was the belt overheating? The belt is always engaged, running between the pullys. The only thing that 'slips' under those circumstances is the clutch. I beleive that you were smelling the clutch overheating, not the belt. |

| it smelled like rubber. I'm looking online for parts and I cant even seem to find a replacement belt for the silverwing at all. I'd like to find one for a spare if nothing else. |

After Hammy broke his belt, I figured I should order extra belts just in case for other members. I ordered three belts. - To replace my current belt when the weather cools down - A new emergency belt for others ... which they can replace with a new belt - I need to replace my belt every 2.25 years ( 32,000 miles ) so either my next belt or another emergency belt |

| Just go to your Honda Dealer and order one. OEM seems to work best....and change at manufacturer's recommended interval. Yes belts can last longer, but is it worth it having belt break in fast lane with big truck up your back?
I broke one in over 200,000 miles----all OEM, changed at correct intervals. Luck I had just pulled off road and tried to move forward at stop sign. No Go. Carried spare, so only short delay--Helix, belt could be changed without clutch removal. Not so with SilverWing. |

| Reading posts over the last few weeks, I'm starting to believe now that adding bits to the Silver Wing, and worrying about problems that might never happen are becoming more important to owners than actually enjoying riding the thing to new destinations.

My thought too, apart from the new destinations bit!! I'm not really bothered where I go rather what on! Two wheels gets my vote every day. At work I am listening to big wheelers already planning to get their rides ready for winter storage. What is wrong with folk. Ride just ride, so the weather is bad! All good experience. |

| When I owned a Helix there was an emergency way of changing a broken belt aided by a wooden hammer shaft or handle. How to do it was described in a Scoot-Tours newsletter, so I had a hammer handle, an old 'get me home' belt, and laminated instructions of how to do it in my touring kit. I never needed to, and so I've forgotten what you had to do. |

| That piece of wood really worked on Helix, too bad not for SilverWing----nor on Reflex. |

| While I agree that for permanent replacement a good sturdy Honda belt is probably be the best thing for the job, but NO ONE has answered my original question: Is there a replacment that a guy could get at someplace like O'reileys or Autozone or something that you could get on the fly? I mean to say, would the fan belt that is for (for instance) a 97 Honda civic work as a replacement up to the point where you're not stranded anymore? Also, I cant seem to find one web page selling belts (even crappy ones) for the silver wing. Got any links for those handy? |

| Hi smorkle,
That's a good question. Just a belt to get you down the road a few, slow miles. I have a spear honda belt I was thinking of taking to the local auto parts store. I'll do that this week end and get back with you. Worth a look. |

| I can see Dennis walking into an auto parts store and telling them he's looking for a snowmobile belt. It's a good suggestion, but maybe not in Tulsa. What about a lawnmower belt for an emergency situation or belts used to run farm equipment? Who knows? Where's McGuiver when you need him? |

| 1- Keep your old belt.
Or...
2- Buy a new Honda belt. Later you will need it and then we are in situation 1.
Eddy. |

| These belts are available on line at www.bikebandit.com #614440 for $132.40. I get all my parts from these folks and have had great service. They offer expedited service which may help in some cases.
