| Yesterday after church, I was standing outside chatting to another member of the congregation, having locked up and preparing to ride home. Three young people, two boys and a girl, sauntered up and were looking at the building, noting that it was the English Church; it's not obviously a church from the outside. I spoke up and confirmed it was then asked them if they'd like to look inside (I have the key). We went in and, after introductions, they said they were from Utah, Salt Lake City, and spending two months in Europe 'Doing the Tour' - camping! I guess they were only 17 or 18 - they looked very young! We chatted for a little while, after which I pointed them in the direction of the main square and we said goodbyes.
One gets impressions on TV of American Youth, much the same as one does of any in the Western World and it's often not good ones.
I am posting this to say what delightful, tidy, well-mannered ambassadors for the United States these three are and what a pleasure it was to meet them. Probably they are typical - I hope so. |

| If they were from Utah, there is a VERY good chance they were Mormons.
If there is any group in the USA that reflects the Mom, Apple Pie and the Flag America of the 1950's, it's them. I'm not surprised you were pleased to have met them (as long as they did not try to convert you!). |
