| I thought our elected representatives, e.g. Congress or city or state elected officials were supposed to make our laws, not some unelected bureaucrats. |

| Any organisation that prompts any government to ban cell phones etc while driving is OK by me, anywhere in the world. The idiots that text and phone while driving may as well be DUI. It's the same outcome. |

| It's illegal in the UK and here but it makes no difference; people still do it and don't get caught. |

Agree Mike, even after a couple of high profile prosecutions where death by dangerous driving was proven, phone use whilst driving is still done. White van man, Reps and mothers taking kids to school. Worst offenders by my observations. |

| The only way it can ever be enforced is to force the manufacturers of the silly things to be inoperative if it is moving more than at a walking pace (3 mph/ 5 kph).

| Living in GA, with no cell phone legislation, after recently moving from NY/NJ with legislation- I don't understand why ANY state would allow in-hand phone use. I have never seen so many reckless drivers as I have seen down here talking on their phones. They don't signal, don't look, drive slow in the left lanes, don't notice when the lights change, and cut over 3 lanes when their exit is approaching. I have never seen as many accidents (including flip-overs) as i see on I75/I85 through Atlanta, which is a 6-lane road plus HOV. |

You can legislate all you want but the idiots will still do it. Even handsfree use of the phone makes a person more likely to be involved in an accident as concentration is diffused between car and phone. What did people do before mobile phones? Need to phone when outside - find a phonebox. Cheers, |

| Read the comments under the article, it amazing the justifications people use to defend why they drive and chat at the same time, you can tell who does it by there response. In another vein, those cell phone jammers you see for sale that look like walkie talkies with 2 or 3 antennas really do work, i have one. While it wont keep you from getting plowed into, there fun to have, i use one at work. |

| Having been hit from behind on my Reflex by lady on cell phone who had run previous stop sign and had no intention of stopping at the second sign I was stopped at-----if I were in charge, these idiots on phones would be pulled from car and shot on the spot----probably have to go thru quite a few until the word got out.
Result for me was fall from TOP of Dodge minvan, total on bike, hand injury requiring fix, Helmet did its job as I hit the pavement.
Somebody had comment on GA----let me tell you their stupid relatives live in TN,too. Some of the worst drivers in the world--- probably they are too stupid to know they are wrong or rude. I have motorcyle/scooter commuted in Tokyo (10 years), Seoul, Stuttgart-----never seem anything like it is here.
Back to driving---think one should be able to do nothing else bu drive/ride when behind the steering wheel or handlebars.
Wish driving standards were raised in N America. |

| Laws are not magic. They do not stop people from doing anything they can get away with. If you support a law, please support those with a way to enforce it that doesn't put a huge financial burden on the state. We have enough of those already.
The drivers in one location are not any worse or better than anywhere else. I don't care if you're talking about Tokyo or Atlanta, there are good drivers and bad drivers. Just because you ran across a couple of bad ones doesn't mean the area you're driving in is bad, it means you had an unlucky day. If you constantly run across them, it's not likely them, it's more likely you are the problem. Deny it all you want, math doesn't lie.
Stop calling people in a certain area bad drivers based on very limited anecdotal information. It's almost certainly not true and it's insulting to those of us that drive in those areas. |

| Just as an example of the law not being magic thing, cell phone jammers are illegal in the US except for military and law enforcement use, but that doesn't stop the person in this thread from using his.
Anyone caught manufacturing, selling, owning, or using a jammer in the U.S. is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense. |

Anyone caught manufacturing, selling, owning, or using a jammer in the U.S. is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense. And the FCC has stated that no one has been cited for the infraction, because no one has complained. |

Anyone caught manufacturing, selling, owning, or using a jammer in the U.S. is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense. Huh! What a coincidental example! Holy cow! And some think im an ahole! |

| I don't think you're an ahole. I think you don't pay attention to laws you don't agree with. Just like everyone who will talk on a cell phone while driving, whether it's against the law or not. |
