Might buy an 07 silver wing...any tips?

I found a silverwing on craigs list in my local area. It is an 07 with 12k miles. It was tipped over in the garage and has a few small scratches, and I noticed the front left panel has a little gap at the same.

Other than cosmetics what should I look for or ask? The seller is kind of a jerk and it's his wifes bike and he just wants to get rid of it. He said all services were done at the local shop but has no paperwork. Normally I wouldn't deal with a guy like this but these bikes are thin on the ground in my area. Overall the bike appears to be in very good condition.

So basically It's all up to visual inspection on this bike. What should I be looking for? Listening for?

Thanks for the help. Hopefully if all goes well I'll have my first MAXI scooter before the end of the weekend. Then it's onto hot rodding it!

will he let you take it to the local honda dealer to have it checked out? if not, 12k mi. is not alot for an 07', check oil level, tire cond. any warning lights stay on after started? check KBB on what an 07' S/Wing is bringing, good luck and Ride Safe.

I know motocycles pretty well. This would be my 9th bike. I'm more asking about silverwing/scooter specific things I should look for.

I checked the price. It's right in line for a bikes with a few scratches.

The belt will need replaced within 4k miles per Honda. From your post, this should not be a big problem for you, but it might be a bargaining chip. Good luck.

You can verify what was done as far as maintenance at the local shop
They should have records even if the owner doesn't
It was me, I like to put my mind at ease,that the routine maintenance was
actually done. Silverwings don't require a lot of upkeep , especially after
only 12k miles , but if the guy is a jerk, he might have been a jerk about maintenance also.

Yes this could be true. I never understand not keeping maintenance records. I usually do all my own work on my motocycles. But I keep receipts for all consumables and I have a log where I right down all work done. I don't work on my cars but I have records for every minor little thing done.

Sounds to me like the seller doesn't go a lot on presentation!

Scoot on its side when you saw it. Scratches and no service records.

It appears you have a mechanical knowledge, so just check it over visually and insist on a test ride.

From what you describe I'd be tempted to just walk away. $3.7k for a five year old machine that sounds like it hasn't been cared for!!!!! The mileage is fine, someone has reported a 130k model recently being involved in an accident so the model has the longevity. (We all know on here the 'Wing' is virtually bomb proof - IF looked after.)
