What do the other members think? Is this out of hand, amusing, spoiling the forum?

I like that list. As a moderator on another forum, we've tried to keep it simple. No personal attacks. No guns, religion or politics. But the list above keeps things like off-color avatars off too, and I like that.

We usually pull the posts off that violate that simple policy into a moderator only section of the forum and send a PM to the offending parties explaining what happened. Most people realize they screwed up and drop it.

The next level after that if they don't comply is to give them a formal warning. After a few of those, they are banned. It takes a lot to get banned though.

I've seen a few former members take it as a personal insult and decide to respond with a no-holds barred flame attack to the moderator/admin giving them a warning. That's why they are former members.

It doesn't take long to have a forum where you wouldn't care if your grade school age kids watched over your shoulder and read the content of the forum.



Now is there any chance we can get back to talking about riding and modifying our scooters?

Can we get back to helpful tips and info and amusing banter. I do not care what gear you care to wear or not (midnight scooter rides in the buff) . What kind of tire you use their seems to be hundreds of thousands miles on each with out problems(I have heard darkside tires help prevent prostate problems). Whether you use a kill switch or key to stop your engine( another forum). Maybe we could bring back scooter joisting to solve conflicts or bad spelling. Let us have fun and be safe as we personally want to be.

Today's helpful tip:

When replacing your spark plugs, tighten to 12 ft/lbs with torque wrench.
If using anti seize on plug threads, tighten to 8 ft/lbs.

If torque wrench unavailable, tighten 1/2 turn with ratchet after finger tight on the socket and extension.
If using anti seize, still tighten 1/2 turn as the angular compression is not a function of torque.

I am not sure about the darkside tires helping the prostrate, every time I mention it, I get a pain there.

You were the first to push the envelope, so you received 7 days which allowed the Moderators to discuss and agree on next steps and actions.

It's your forum. Do what you need to do.

I think BigBird ok. Remember to rise to be admin (in some cases) you have to have limited experience/ recommend dangerous practices(wrong tires) and like the POWER. Other dangerous things I have seen...recommendations on how to overcome overloading. I think scooter time better spent wrenching or riding-----to be admin (in some cases) maybe you have others work on bike, too? This bike stuff supposed to fun and transport.

Your post has gone to far and is out of bounds.

Being disrespectful of the hard working admins is not going to be productive. Mocking their views and painting them all with the same brush is rude behavior.

They are working over-time with their free time to try to bring this into a respectful forum AND to protect your right to be here and to voice your opinion and experience on motorcycles.

It is shameful to cast your shadow on here and at the same time be disrespectful to the people who work hard to protect it from crashing in completely. They do this as volunteers, without pay because they believe the value of this forum is worth the effort.

They are people, who have opinions which might be different of others, but they do not disrespect people for different opinions.

If you have ever made a mistake in your life, then you have to allow others to make them too. The admins are people, and good ones at that.

I started this topic.

I bitched publicly about a mod personally insulting me when it should have been done through a PM. Then this topic would never have started. I still have not seen a followup from that mod saying that his belittling and degrading public post was out of line.

The admin even got involved publicly with banning and threats.

I said 10 times what I have to say. Larryinsesattle said 26 times what he had to say.
Time to lock, or better yet, delete this garbage, and move on?

It's actually been quite ridiculous lately. Three threads locked so far in less than 1 week. In the past years you might have seen 1 thread locked in 1 year. Maybe the admin and mods better get their act together and either clamp down hard on all, or let this once admirable forum deteriorate to another garbage internet forum. And I regretfully take some responsibility for this thread locking.

To members making posts in this thread,

We mods have started to work in the background about what has been going on for the last few weeks and we will come out with a different set of rules. It's just that things haven't really started to 'go down the tubes' about 5-6 months ago. I know when i started this forum my only rules were to be respectful of others and keep things moderatly clean. I was very , very big on respecting others.

But it seems recently that things have gotten worse so we need to step in, and we will post what will need to change soon. I read John Grinsel's post, about 5 posts up from this one, and to tell you the truth, I don't know if he was dissing us mods or someone else. His grammer is quite lacking and i can't really figure out what he was trying to say. But one thing, in the new rules, will be respecting of the 'mods'.

As I have said before, I can't believe that people can make such disrespectful comments, or 'digs', at people just over a scooter. We all do things that others would not agree with, but for others to keep making comments that are 'attacking' in nature is ridiculous. You can make a post saying you think it is not safe to ride without a helmet, or use a car tire, but don't be disrespectful. I was brought up in Illinois and am used to a 'no helmet' rule. But in California they are required, and at my age I would still wear one even if they changed the rules. But for members to come out and call people derogatory names, or makes these types of comments is counter-productive.

So please, untill we come out with some new posting guidelines, let's re-read our posts before we 'send' them so they aren't meant to be disrespectful. I am huge on freedom of speech but some comments are getting out of hand and makes the forum 'less fun'. I'm sure if we all met would could sit down, have a beer, and really enjoy each others company.

Everyone needs to be respectful of others. That goes for us regular members AND the mods. If a mod steps out of line, the others may need to rescind that privilege. I have seen a few posts from mods that should have never been posted. I know I plan to PM the other mods if I see something inappropriate from one of their number. Same goes for the regular members. If someone steps out of line, that should be handled via a PM, NOT publicly.

Let's stop the antics and get back to talking about wrenching and riding.

Which is precisely why forums have a group of moderators - if one posts something which is unacceptable, the others will moderate that post and 'discipline' the moderator.

Don't forget, also, that moderators are members of the forum just as much as anyone else and have to walk a fine line between being member and moderator.
Pointing out the error of people's ways by PM is a complete waste of time simply because the worst offenders not only ignore any suggestion that they are out of line but continue in private to goad and find fault.

It's clearly of no consequence to most people here but I have messages of support for my actions from members equally sick of the pathetic, yes pathetic, bickering and point-scoring from the tiny minority who seem hell-bent on spoiling the forum for everyone and......if PMs are the order of the day, should they not be exchanging there nastiness by PM, too?

As MikeO said about the PM's we get as mods. I have also received PM's about members posts and that they seem to be overboard in ways. And we as mods, have to walk on both sides of the street here, 1 as a member and 1 to help try to keep the board "flowing" along. We have had some members either quit or stop posting due to what has been going on here lately. So please just keep this in mind when posting and not include a sentence or thought that is trying to 'bait' others. It just makes things worse and not much fun. Thanks.

I'm not a regular poster here but I look at this forum on a daily basis. I used to post more than I do but I got disrespected a few times too many (or at least I perceived it that way) and I just chose to not post much unless it was of a lot of importance.

Perhaps I shouldn't even be talking since I don't have a dog in this fight, but the only reason I'm posting now is that I've been a member of several scooter forums and there always seems to be one or two threads where a couple people bicker at each other for one reason or another. It ALWAYS ends up with someone getting mad and/or their feelings hurt and several people leave the forum. Something that you never take into consideration is that you end up alienating some people who you don't even know were looking at the forum and they just silently go away and never come back. I joined this forum because it was friendly and I'm hoping for it to stay that way.

My mom gave me some good advice when I was a kid: "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all."

Be careful with that subject... the wife and I started a bible study here at our house one night a week; that was about 2, maybe 3 years ago.
In our general discussions about who was related to who around this little farm town of Harveyville, it was quickly revealed how intermeshed the situation really was. Nearly gave a real meaning to the ol' country song titled "I Am My Own Grandpa"!!!

I've left sites for the same reasons. I've posted many subjects just for conversation starters and ended up being accused of making stupid posts, so I am cautious as well. I am also a member of maxiscoots forum and I will say that the guys there are top notch and respectful, in fact some of you here are also there as well. I'm hoping to have the same enjoyment here??
I actually joined over a year a go but just read occasionally. Having bought my first Silverwing a few weeks a go, I decided to now be more active, since now I am one of "you"

As far as the safety gear subject goes. Come to Ohio, where if you see a cyclist in a helmet, jacket & gloves, its probably me. Its all shorts, tank tops and ball caps here for the majority of motorcyclists, I even saw a guy shirtless a few days ago, with flip flops on a big Harley. People can risk their life, its their choice. I have a few friends that go helmetless and I force myself to not comment, but it is hard, because I care about their safety.
