| Subject: Best/Worst Year(s) for ABS? Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:16 am | |
| I am looking to move from my Non-ABS SWing to an ABS SWing. Are there any years where the ABS system is better? Or worse? Or are all years the same? If this has been discussed before then hopefully you can point me to a thread (or search terms). Thanks again as always. |

| I own a 2007 ABS ( now has 20,000 miles) and I have driven on some slippery zones including a McDonald's parking lot that was half covered in ice. the rear tire slipped a bit on the ice, but that was not when braking. and Yes I had my feet hovering over the pavement, just in case... It was 17 F degrees at the time. the ABS is so smooth, you don't even feel it working. In my van the pedal vibrates during an event, but no vibration felt when on my SilverWing.

| To my knowledge, there are no bad years. Best bet for your safety, buy a new fresh scooter....and then learn how to use it....repeated high speed 80 mph straight line stops. Idea is never let off brake levers until completely stopped in spite of lever feel or tire sounds---then remember ABS is not idiot proof and probably cannot save you in an over cooked cornering situation. My newest bike has ABS and I feel it may be useful in rain/heavy traffic or uneven traction situations.
New bike means probably no duff mech or tackle box mech owner has had chance to monkey with braking system.
Remember on SilverWing ABS or any other bike, most effective means of braking is to use both brake levers each and every stop---that way in emergency you do the right thing automatically.

| Thanks guys for your input as it helped a lot! I now have (just purchased) an ABS SWing. It stops a lot faster - mostly I guess because I am no longer afraid to aggressively apply the brakes. |
