Working on a 04 silver wing, and pulled the belt cover off to look at the belt and there is a shinny spot on the top and bottom of the cover where the belt has been rubbing. The bike has 17,000 miles belt measures 26mm. You guys thing I should just go ahead and replace the belt now? Thanks

Nah, just wait till it breaks. Then the frayed belt will make everything shiny and you'll find out who your real friends are. :lol!: Yes I would change it and welcome to the forum.

Welcome dragnframe. Firstly, if your 'Wing' has been serviced as per the schedule the belt "should" have been replaced at 16,000 miles. Depending on how long you have owned the bike you should know the answer to that one. If you know that the belt has actually done 17,000 miles then arrange to have the belt replaced - you are now on borrowed time! Next, the 'shiny' sections. I think you will find if you remove most if not all belt covers you will find the same 'rubbing' marks so on that, I personally wouldn't be alarmed. Hope that is of some help.
