| This subject cropped up a few months ago on another forum with a global membership. An American joined our forum and also palnned to visit England for a week this summer and asked what the differences in our common language were so that he didn't make a faux pas.
While reading the current post on 12v Aux socket (no pun intended) I read of a heated vest and that rekindled my thoughts on the matter and thought it might be a fun post so here are a few and I'm sure you will help out.
Vest = Waistcoat or garment worn under a shirt next to the skin Sidewalk = Pavement Pavement = Road surface Fanny = Backside Bum = backside Pussy = Fanny Fanny pack/bag = Bum bag Pussy = affectionate name for cat Fag = Cigarette Fag = dreary task Faggot = Tasty meatball made from offal and meat Fender = Wing Trunk = Boot Sedan = Saloon Antenna = Aerial Pants = Trousers Hose = Socks or stockings Panti hose = Tights Shorts = Under pants as well as shorts
Some of these are becoming common parlance I guess as our shared pond shrinks.
Over to you for more examples please.

| We had an English gardener at the farm growing up. He called Gas = petrol hood of the car = bonnet I used to love to hear him say, "I gave your horses (orses) some hay (ay)"...you have to say that with the accent. |

I had no idea that driving on the wrong side of the road could cause so much confusion :lol!: . |

| A friend of mine completed her last year of high school in the United States after being educated in the UK. Imagine her male classmate's surprise when she asked to borrow his rubber (eraser). Imagine her surprise when he explained what rubbers are in the U.S. |
