| Hello all
I am looking into picking up a 2003 Honda Silverwing
Owner says it has 7,500 mile on it
Now since it is an 03 what kind on changes has the Silverwing done through over the years to date?
Owner says it has been garaged
But an 03 with 7,500 miles tells me it was not used allot
Was there ABS in '03
What should I look over before buying?
Thanks in advance
Steve |

Steve Look for the search function at the top of this page and type in "buying". There are several threads on this topic that should give you the information you are seeking. Oh, and welcome to the forum. Best of luck with your purchase. |

| Steve,
I bought a 2003 in 2009 that had 3800 miles on it from the original owner. The only concerns that I had regarding age&lack of use were the tires, brake fluid and radiator fluid.
Being cheap, I rode on the tires until they were worn out (around 7200 miles), and waited about 1.5 years to have the fluids replaced. I could not determine any difference with the fresh fluids.
ABS was available in 2003. Few changes have been made through the years. Changes that were made are mostly cosmetic. Don't be surprised if the dashboard rumbles on takeoff - it can be fixed for about $60 (Dr Pulley Sliders or Rollers in a weight lighter than the stock 28 gram size).
These machines are pretty solid. Address the windshield issue, perhaps change the rollers to lighter weight (most cost effective solution is Dr Pulley sliders - Search site for info) and, if you are into a sportier ride, swap out the fork springs. If you like a milder ride and a softer ride, leave them alone (perhaps some thicker oil will help fork - probably 20w) since they are more comfortable. Bottom line, if the machine seems to run okay, it probably is okay. |

| I saw a Silverwing today and was impress
Very solid machine
One thing that thru me was the owner said that this scoot had ABS but I noticed no ABS sensor ring near the front or rear brake rotor.
If it does have ABS should there be a sensor ring?
Thanks |

| Whiteknuckler, yes if it does have ABS there should be a sensor ring. I know the Silverwing I bought two years did not have ABS. And now 35,000 miles later I am as happy as the day I bought it. Yes I would like to have ABS, but if I was looking for a replacement it would not be a deal-breaker if it did not have ABS. |

| Non-ABS would not be a deal breaker
I have a 2007 Suzuki Burgman 650 without ABS
No big deal
The owner in question wants for his Silverwing $3,200.00 and it has 7,800 miles
The NADA site has this bird at $2,700.00 without ABS witch I am sure it does not have as I noticed no sensor ring
There are at least 4 Silverwings on Creiglist in a 200 mile radius and that all match up to NADA except this one.
Thanks for the replies |

| Maybe the owner confused the linked brake system with ABS or maybe he thought you wouldn't know better. I saw a Silverwing listed on our local Craigslist and the poster said it would go 130 MPH. Maybe he has a speedometer that reads in KPH. |

| Are you telling me that the 2003 Silverwing has a linked braking system?
I did notice the rear brakes had two brake lines for each piston (two) and I think the same for the front |

/quote] I believe the left brake lever activates front and rear brakes and the right lever only the front. It is this way on my 2007. If it's different for the 2003, it won't be the first (or last) time I'm wrong. |

| Hi Yo, I saw that ad, too. I thought, "really, I routinely hear 110 mph, but 130?" I've only had SW a couple of weeks. I don't doubt the 110, but I haven't seen it, yet. WB

I have had my Wing against the stops, (120 mph indicated). Only once, it will reach 110 mph indicated and does on occasion when the roads are empty and I'm alone. I seriously don't know how anyone can say the Wing will do 130 mph as the speedo only shows 120 max! Either typo or they are talking kph! |

| I was the one who ended up buying this Silver Wing. It is super clean like new, its amazing. It does have a rumble sound coming from the dash. I have it the repair to get the rumble fixed, as it drives me nuts because ots hard to hear the engine.
Otherwise its a great ride and fun. I get many compliments on it.

Bill 9erfan Congrats on the new ride! Re: the rumble - please see my post above. |

| Definitely check if the recall have been performed. My local dealer had my '03 for almost a month, and frankly I'm not 100% convinced that they performed all of the procedures before returning it to me.
I bought my 03 4 years ago with 8000 miles and I am now above 30k. It's my daily driver and i love it.
