| here is my delima. i purchased my 04 swing used. and before i did anything i ran the hell out of it to see if she was sound. and the answer was yes. SUPER quick, top speed 115 mph and great ride. so.... I had the works done to her. new plugs, new belt, oil change, new coolant, new tires new brakes and paint job. problem is.... IT PERFORMS WORSE NOW! throttle response is "OK" but not body snatching fast like it was. and top speed now is between 95 and 100 mph wit 100 pushing it. any idea what the problem may be. was not serviced by honda but by local shop.

| Weird...
Might be worth letting the 'local shop' know that there is a problem but you could check the plugs to see if its burning properly. |

problem is.... IT PERFORMS WORSE NOW! I would put the Silverwing on center stand, lift off tire and spin each tire (off the ground) to check for any noise or binding. Then check for side-to-side bearing play. I would also suggest using fuel injector cleaner in 3-4 tankfuls. Simple steps first. |

| sounds like to me it is a belt or variator problem. Did they change rollers or install sliders? they could they be installed wrong ? Like honda_silver said spin the wheels and make sure that is free, Keep us posted Thanks |

| This is just a guess. I think you had lighter weight sliders and when you had the tune up / belt change. I think they put in new stock rollers that weighed more then the sliders did. Go back to the shop and ask them if they changed the weights / sliders or rollers in the variator. If it was not to long since you had this work done maybe you can ask the mechanic if he remebers working on your silverwing and ask about the work that was done on the variator or look at your receipt for a parts list and see if you had rollers or slider weights replaced . If so order some lighter weight sliders and try them . I hope the fix is as simple as that. Good Luck |

| If the belt was worn enough is considered as a small sprocket in front and by replacing it with a new OEM is like you change front sprocket with a larger one.I mean less Rpms for the same speed.Anyway ......with brand new oem belt and rollers your rev limiter sould hit round 115 mph and that comes fairly easy.Try your top speed on your center stand....staticaly |

| I had a similar problem a year or so ago.
My problem ended up being the glue on the heated grips had come unstuck and resulted in top speed being between 90 -100 mph.
So if you have heated grips, give them a looking at. Maybe simpler and cheaper than expected. |

| Please *DON'T* accelerate to top speed with the bike on the center stand. It's not designed to do that with no load and you run a good chance of breaking something. Nevermind if the tire, as it expands in radius, catches on something, you've got an out of control 600 lbs projectile. Plus the helix/spiral in the rear pulley is going to act way different.
Use a dyno if you need to test this. Lots of motorcycle shops have them.
Before you ride it anymore though, you need to check tightness of the front and rear pulleys. Standard procedure is to loosen the front one to put the belt on. If it is just statically tightened against the belt, it's probably loose. You have to make sure the belt isn't pinched while it is tightened. That could certainly do bad things.
Are you sure your tires are OEM sized (heck, your old ones might not have been).

Me being thick - but how? The speed pick up is on the front wheel is it not. Therefore if spinning up the rear on the centre stand how on earth will the speed be detected! |

| Done my homework and my Service Manual shows the speed sensor below the front brake calliper!!!!
Page 23 of the FSC600 Manual.
IF I had a bike in the garage right now I would check so I am just going to have to trust Mr Honda's manual!
Just added to my total confusion. |

Maybe thats the ABS speed sensor? The speedo sensor is on the rear wheel gearbox. |

| So far I have found a Front Wheel Speed Sensor AND a Rear Wheel Speed Sensor! (Suspect part of the ABS!) Found it, Page 174. VEHICLE Speed Sensor! At the rear. I'm not confused anymore - also knowledge increased. Not a bad thing. |
