| I'm going on a trip to Denver from Portland, OR this summer and I'll be doing three days of rideing each way. I've already developed tennis elbow in my right arm and my physical theropist says it will not be a good idea to be clamping on my bikes throttle for an extended period of time. Is there a good and safe electronic cruse control for the Silverwing? Has anyone had experience with installing such devices? Chuck |

| While many of us here wish it weren't so, the short answer is "No". |

| You'll be best off with a Crampbuster or something similar. You'll be better able to keep your hand more relaxed. That and even if there were a good electronic cruise, it'd be more of a hassle than it's worth to purchase and install. |

| I think from a technical standpoint the best true cruise control for the Silverwing is made by a company in Australia, and is very expensive. Australian Dollar ↔ US Dollar 1 AUD = 1.04230 USD 1 USD = 0.959417 AUD http://www.mccruise.com/ Instructions for it are here: https://www.silverwing600.com/download.forum?id=299This is what it looks like installed on the Silverwing: You might also find this interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxnbizi3eZA

| There were several Pacific Coast (PC800) riders on the IPCRC who installed cheap aftermarket car cruise controls on their bikes. The most complicated part seemed to be constructing a vacuum reservoir, as the bike supplies much less vacuum than a car does. All in all, they looked good, worked good, and didn't cost too much, just a lot of DIY work. (I'm looking for the instructions on that group. I'll post them here if I find them.) |

| Why not use the "go cruise", it takes 3 seconds to install, 2 seconds to uninstall, and costs $17. I have it and use it when on long highway stretches. So simple and effective. |

| Thanks to everyone that has responded to my questions. It has given me a lot to think about. As I have heard the Honda Goldwing has a electronic cruse control. How does it work and can it be adapted for the Silverwing? I've got a plastic clamp that I've attempted to use on my throttle that is very ockward. It is made to hold a position or give enough friction to maintain a throttle position. I may end up using this for long streachs of my trip, other wise it doesn't allow for smooth operation of the throttle. Again I'm quite grateful for all your advice and help. Chuck |

I would suggest "Wrist Rest" ( http://www.hognutz.com/grips-throttle/188/ ). If you Google search: "Wrist rest" hognutz site:silverwing600.com You will find the posts for Wrist Rest |

| Has anyone used the "BrakeAway" cruise control for their Silverwing throttle? After reading about it and seeing the videos, it is less complicated than an electric control and far less expensive and much easer to install. I greatly value the experience that everyone has that uses this forum and I want to make my choices based on your experiences. The BrakeAway also is conviently manufactured near my home in Portland, OR. Some times are not what they sound like or are too good to be true. Chuck, |

| The BrakeAway looks good, anyone know will it work with heated grips which are a little larger than standard?

| I tried all kinds of different clip-on thingies and eventually settled on the Küryakan Throttle Boss and Universal Econo-Throttle Assist as the best answer for me. I have routinely made trips from El Paso, TX to Tempe, AZ which is a distance of about 425 miles using this and have no hand craps whatsoever since.

| I owned one new bike with electronic cruise=too dangerous for 2 wheels as they give a shot of gas just when you don't need, traction/whole idea to keep bike upright, etc.
Cheapest is NEP which you can still get from Aerostich---works good on SilVerWing---remove grip, intstall NEP, maybe a little file work drill small hole in lower part of NEP, use safety wire or small nylon tie to really secure it to throttle guides. $20 |

| I've had three different model Goldwings, 1200, 1500 & 1800 that had electronic cruise controls. Wonderful accessory for long rides, I used to make runs as long as 900 miles in a day on those bikes. I believe one could install an electronic cruise control like an Audiovox or Rostra in a Silverwing. These are all electronics units without vacuum actuators so they take less room and the only input for speed controls is the 12V power line and a speed signal from the bike. It's a bit more difficult on a CVT transmission because there's no fixed gearing so you can't use a speed signal from the engine. It should be possible to take the speedometer speed signal as an input, if you have an ABS model it should be easy to tap off the one of the wheel speed signals. Other than that you'd need to connect to the brake switches to shut off the cruise in case of emergency. On the Goldwing there's four safety switches. One on the clutch switch, one on the front brake, one on the rear brake and one on the throttle so the cruise will shut down if you twist the throttle down. I installed a Rostra on my diesel Dodge some years ago. It worked very well once I had the right inputs dialed in. It looks to me that there's a couple of places where the unit could be installed, possibly under one of the rear side covers which would allow the control cable to reach the throttle bodies. It would be an interesting project, I've thought about it but haven't made any real long trips with this SW yet. Maybe I'll give it a shot this summer. Be advised that these things take a bit of tinkering ability to get them installed and working safely. Amazon has the Rostra at a very good price. http://www.amazon.com/Rostra-Universal-Electronic-Control-250-1223/dp/B007ZCQD9S/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t |

| I've had the BrakeAway control on my Harley Heritage, and now I have it on my Silverwing. It is indeed probably the best mechanical throttle lock available. It works very well, and it is the only one that disengages when you apply the brake. |

| I want to thank everyone that gave information about cruise control, even though I miss spelled CRUISE in the question. I'm a terrible speller. After all the information, I purchased a BrakeAway control that is made for the Silverwing and installed it. I've used it on several trips with the Oregon Scooter Club and I'm very pleased. I recommend it to anyone wanting to rest their right hand. Chuck |

| If that's a metal version of the Go Cruise I have and never use, it's simple to fit but if you have mirror extenders fitted they may get in the way of that long leg thing on the cruise control and stop you pushing it down with you index finger.
Then because you've moved the position of the right mirror extender you have to check the mirror stem doesn't hit your screen when you turn the handlebars on full lock to the left, it does with the Airflow.
Unless you're on some half deserted motorway/autobahn/ freeway you'll soon realise you don't need to set that cruise control because to drone along as you're constantly adjusting your speed overtaking lines of slower vehicles, that's why my Go Cruise has barely been used.
It's probably more useful for the long straight empty to the horizon and beyond roads of Arizona or similar states with hardly any traffic.

| I was pondering a good cruise lock instead of control . What I used on my Kawa Connies was a Caterpilar O ring.Worked great and is inexpensive. I just installed a ziptie on my Wing to see if it will maintain a steady speed on a flat stretch of road. I'll let you know how well it works. |

| I used the cat O-ring on my Concurs=ok, but not wonderful ----for my Silverwing I use NEP throttle stop , buy from Aerostich @ about $21=work, safe, mine required some mods to work perfectly.
My use of "cruise" is for picking/wiping nose or hand relief on boring stretch

| I put a Kaoko throttle lock on my 650GT and I like it much better than the Vista Cruise type. I had a Throttle Meister on my 1100LT which is a very good throttle holder but the Kaoko works even better, easy to use even with heavy gloves. The friction setting stays put and doesn't slip like a lot of cheaper units. Not cheap but works great, very unobtrusive as it simply replaces the bar end weight(s) on the handlebar. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/kaoko-throttle-control/ |

| Well I tried the ziptie throttle lock and so far it works just fine. Trouble is that those chinese cheapo s do deteriorate and snap. So I keep three or four spares in glove-box. The better ones are US made and are sold in the electrical department of Home Depot or Lowe's. Happy Cruising Folks |

| I use a Kuryakyn Universal Throttle Boss. I also use Grip Puppies, the Grip Puppies come longer than the stock grips and need to be cut to fit. I left the Grip Puppy on the throttle longer than the stock grip and put the Throttle Boss out towards the end. Works good for me. |
