New Member from N.E. Al, "USA

Hello all, Scootn56 here. I Just wanted to give you my introduction. I am currently 56 yrs. old and have ridden motorcycles since my teen years. I currently own a 2003 Honda GL1800 Goldwing and a 2005 Honda Reflex scooter. Before that I owned a Honda Valkyrie Tourer 1998 model. All my Hondas have been bullet proof and a joy to own/ride. I am currently considering the purchase of a new ride and I have been looking at the Silverwing and the Burgman scooters for a few years now. I know all about the Honda reliability and am heavily biased toward Hondas but I like some things about the Burgman scooters. I have never owned a Suzuki before and I often read on the Burgman forums to see what problems owners report. I have been reading posts on this forum for some time and decided to go ahead and join to say a big ole Howdy from N.E. Al. USA

I too, was trying to decide between a Burgman 650 and a Silverwing.

I liked the idea of the electric servo controlled transmission in the Burgman 650. You have a paddle shifter on the handlebars that you can change gears like a manual transmission or you can just leave it in automatic.

Then I read posts on other sites about Burgman 650 transmission problems. The problem start to occur at about 15k miles. The dealer cost to repair it was around $3000. The work required was beyond the scope of what most backyard mechanics would attempt.

I decided to go for the simpler and more reliable centrifugal weight transmission used in our Reflex, Silverwing and just about every other moped and scooter out there. They are simple enough for me to be able to repair.

I like advanced technology but I like reliability even more.
