New 2012 ABS Light

I just bought a new 2012 Swing and the red ABS light stays on till I get moving. Is this normal?

It is designed to do that, quite normal!

Self test and goes off at about 8mph.

The anti-lock brake system (ABS) indicator comes on when you turn the ignition switch ON. This indicator goes off after you ride the scooter at a speed above 6 mph (10 km/h).

Do new Wings come with an owners manual and tool set? If so what tools come in the tool kit now.

Yes, should have owner's manual and "tools", at least in the USA. Tools just seem to include basically a screwdriver.

I've just bought a new UK 2013 model. The tool bag includes:-

A flat screwdriver blade
A cross-head (Philips) screwdriver blade
A black plastic handle for the above
A double-ended ring spanner (10 & 12 mm ends)
A double-ended open spanner (14 & 17 mm ends)
A socket/spark plug wrench (with pivoting handle)
A black allen (hex) key (size not specified - 4mm at a guess)
A curious lever thing which I think is for adjusting the rear suspension.

If anyone can tell me what they do ......

On UK models the tool kit acts a paperweight for the Owners Manual stored under the seat, and a handy rubber strap ensures both tool kit and manual stay together.

In the US the Owners Manual must self destruct like those little tape recorders in the Mission Impossible TV series, because no one has one!

Either that or the manual is made out of rice paper so the rider has something to chew on between stops at McDonalds!

Here the dealers remove the manual and tools ,and don,t bother to re install under the seat . If you don't ask for them you won't get it back.They tell you there was non so they can sell you one later. When you buy privately the manual and tools are with the scooter 95% of the time.

So that must be why the other 5% join this forum and shortly disappear again. It's just to get answers to the basics on riding and maintaining the Silver Wing, and a quick browse through the manual would answer those questions if they had one.

My new 2012 SW Came with an owners manual. The Tool Kit is a plastic case that has a handle and screwdriver blade. I questioned the dealer about the lack of Tools and he told me that Honda doesn't provide Tools anymore with their Bikes, other than the Screwdriver and pouch. They are trying to reduce costs. I had a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero that I purchased new and it had the same plastic tool pouch but had a handle, Phillips and Straight Srewdriver blades, a Spark Plug wrench and an owners manual. Honda must provide more tools with the bikes across the pond.
I supplement my tool pouch with some of my own tools which I think could be needed on the road.

I also add xtra tools ,sun block,spray bottle,paper towels ,flash light,gloves,water.

My 08 Silver Wing come with everything Colin B has listed except for the tool for adjusting the socks. And I did get the owners manual with it. I also purchased the tool for adjusting the socks.

You should be able to adjust the shocks with your hands. I wear a glove and they are very easy to adjust on my '07.

I thought you Yanks wore suspenders for your socks!
