| Hi All. I just bought my 03 Swing with 10, 000 miles. I live in Cairo, Egypt. Last week I went for a ride around Sinai peninsula it was about 900 miles ride. I was very impressed by the Swing handling specially in cross wind. But I would like to know more about fuel economy and the optimum cruising speed. Because I was a bit surprised that the fuel tank can only last about 200 km (120 miles) not sure if it is ok or not.
Cheers Ahmed |

| Your gas economy should be a little better than that. My 2009 loaded 2-up with large rider & passenger is getting better than 40 mpg. Some of the mechanical authorities on this forum should be able to make suggestions about improving your fuel economy. |

| Ahmed,
Welcome to the site and congrats on your new SWing. You should be getting around 50 mpg if you are cruising at 65 mph, which is 70 indicated on the speedo. I'm not sure if you use mph or kph though. If you are getting low 40's or less you should replace your air filter. I have done a pictorial on how to do that in the "pictorial" section.
Next time you go for a nice ride, fill it all the way up so you know it is totally full. When I get mine full I will move the handlebars back and forth, and then put more gas in. It seems when I do this I can get more gas in. And then when you do your next fill up then compute the mileage. But you should get much better than what you were getting. But I would check your air filter and also your spark plugs. There are pictorials for both here. Good luck. |

| Hello Ahmed, Welcome aboard. Sometimes it's just a matter of a combination things that lead our scooters to good mileage. New spark plugs, clean air filter, proper tire pressure, clean fuel injectors, and using fresh fuel. Things that use fuel are, riding style, head wind, weight loaded on the scooter, and stop and go driving (city traffic). Again, welcome aboard. |

| Welcome and for sure check on the fuel mileage thing. Yours is certainly on the low side, however you mention winds etc. bear in mind that wind can play a big part in the mileage . |

| I think JeffR hit the nail on the head. Clean or replace your air filter. The only time my SilverWing ever had a large decrease in mileage it turned out to be the air filter. Just cleaning the air filter would not cost a thing and is a great place to start. Now if your local dealer has an air filter in stock I would go ahead and buy one (you may not need it) but if not I would just clean it to see if your mileage increases. As you can see by all the replies to your post you will get the help you need to get your Wing running up to parr. But please do get back to us and let us know how fixed your problems. |

| Thanks for your replies. I changed the air filter to K&N and the spark plugs as well but no major difference yet. Thanks god the gas is cheap in Egypt 1 USD/Gallon . Do you think the valving gap has something to do? |

| As I said above the tank holds 4.2 US gallons. How much gas did it take to fill up after riding 200 klm? You said you can only go 200 klm on a tank, but that will not tell what your milage is unless you tell us how much you have to put in after riding that 200 klm. I have over 44,400 miles on my SilverWing and have not had to adjust my valves yet so I don't think that is your problem. 1 USD/Gallon WOW I sure wish we could get it for two or three times that. We pay $3.35 right now and that is the lowest it's been in a long time. And I'm sure the people over the pond(from USA) think we in the USA get it cheap, but $1 a gallon again all I can say is WOW |

| Ram1500 , Ahmed,
My Silverwing is a 2001 model.
With (realy) full gas tank , i can make 200 km... and then the last bit of the meter begins to blink.
About 5.6 liter each 100 km. For the old model Silverwing are these figures very normal .
Eddy from Flanders, Belgium.

| Depending on the speed 95 klph and all HWY riding you should get 280 kl before the reserve flash s on. to know the mpg , the formula is 200kl x.64=128 miles.12 litters is 12. divided by 4.54=2.64 imperial gal.=128 divided by 2.64= 48.48 mpg. |

| Thank you all. We are all safe BTW I just ordered new tires (Pirelli Diablo), Hyperpro progressive springs, new drive belt and dyna beeds. Do you think the beeds are efficient or I should do traditional tires balancing? Any tips when installing the new springs or the drive belt? I will be in Vegas & LA by mid August. Any meets or rides during this time? Thanks again |
