| Glad to find this forum and pleased to see that many are like me - 60+ grey beards. I'm new to 2 wheels and decided to start w/a 2003 red Silverwing. Wanted something that I could use on the side streets but that could hold its own on the big roads in DFW. Are there riding groups here in north Texas? |

| Welcome to the forum.
The Silverwing is a good bike to begin your two wheel adventures on.
My cousin, (in his 60's) had never ridden anything but a bicycle before. Out of the blue, he bought a Harley ElectroGlide (882 lbs). He dropped it within a week of the purchase while pulling out of his driveway. He broke his leg in several places and the bike was sold shortly after. Why he wouldn't start with a more reasonable first bike until his skill/experience level matched the machine is beyond me.
My wife has her license and rides a Reflex. She said that it took her about a year before the controls were second nature to her. Then there were things like a right turn from a stop sign. She would be holding the bike up with her left foot and then have to lean the opposite way to make a right turn. Learning things like that are so far in my past that I forgot all about them.
You will experience a lot of things for the first time. Stay alert, take your time, don't assume that other drivers will obey traffic signals and you should be fine. You will find the 2 wheel world can be very liberating. |
