Hi All,
There's probably a few of you folks who are still around since the preceding 18 or 19 months and may remember my mentioning our little town of Harveyville, Kansas, that was hit hard by an F2 tornado.  One life was lost and about a third of the village was damaged bad enough to require complete teardown and replacement which included our church that was completely flattened.

That was on the 28th of February, 2012 (weird time for such storms) and now some 18 months later, we're getting ready to have our new church's first service (albeit informal and accompanied by a work period to finish a lot of little things) on the 1st of September.  Our first 'formal' service will be on the 8th of September

From first debating not even rebuilding, to now looking at our new million dollar church, everyone is starting to breathe a collective sigh to see it come to fruition.  You know how they say that to get a job really screwed up is to turn it over to a committee??  Well, our building committee (with myself as the chairman) of about 12 members worked as smoothly as even a Silver Wing.Laughing  So, looking at the 1st of September as our first service, we're all extremely happy and thanking God for all he's done for us.

Just wanted all my Silver Wing friends to know.

Good stuff DickO

reminds me of a story I heard
There's this Southern church that's still being worked on, and the workers have rigged a "cage elevator" inside so they can get material up and down to the spire. A characteristic of these "cage elevators" is that the doors (gate) must be closed manually for them to be "called" to another level.

One day one of the workers, Peter Smith, takes the elevator to the top of the spire, and it is subsequently needed on the first floor by the pastor. Unfortunately, Peter forgot and left the door open. After the pastor rings for the elevator a couple times, to no avail, he yells up for the worker to send the lift back down. Visitors to the church were treated to this sight: The pastor of the church, head tipped up, yelling up to the heavens:

"Peter! CLOSE THE GATES!!!"cheers cheers cheers

Congratulations on the new church, and with God on the building committee of course it went smoothly. The other 12 members were just workers. I hope the congregation continues to grow with the new church building.

Thanks for sharing that with us. Too often we hear about the destruction of storms such as this but never hear the heroic stories such as yours! Rebuilding took a lot of work and prayer, may God be with you and your church!
