Really! How did that happen?

What symptoms did you have?

How many miles?

27000 miles on the clock started to get a nasty rumble from the variator area thought it might be worn rollers or belt maybe even worn variator but when covers off and variator removed could see a bit of oil seeping out past the seal on crank shaft then noticed the shaft off.center dont know whether its gonna be a really expensive fix or just an expensive one. The Honda mechanic cant even tell me over the phone until he goes in cause he has never had one go before

Theres an engine on ebay for £440 from a 2002 Silverwing. I wonder how long its takes to get an engine out and put it back later, would a day cover it? That could be another £3-400 I guess.

I'd imagine to repair your engine would add another days labour plus parts, maybe £4-500. But we dont know what other damage is in there.

I'm just guessing but its food for thought...

If it was mine, I'd be pulling the engine apart myself.

Yes, I agree it would be a gamble trying the 2nd hand engine. You've made the right choice, I hope it costs a lot less than my guess Smile

I'd take the chance on another engine because a problem like yours has got to be very rare. I haven't heard of anything like that before and can't find anything like it on the internet either. Swapping the engine really shouldn't be a difficult chore, I've done it with a couple Goldwings. At least the SW's engine is a lot lighter.
