| Okay... Maybe I'm just getting grouchy in my old age... but... Just came on to the site about 15 minutes ago... what is it with all the inane, underlined words and the pop-ups that occur when you drag your pointer across them. Then, when you try to "X" them off, it tries to open another page which is on the pop-up. The I have to turn around and "X" that thing off too. And there are so damn many of them !!!!
And now there is the pop-up that appears down in the lower right corner to try and advertise something else. And yes, when I try to "X" it off, it tries to go to another site too !!! The whole damn thing is irritating to the 'nth' degree. Cannot casually read the posts on this site because of all the distracting, damn pop-ups.
Maybe the admin/owner needs the advertising to help keep this site going; that I would understand... Still, it's a real PIA and definitely detracts from what was a very nice site. Please find another way. |

If you'd care to send £5 per month to each admin.... I see no pop-ups and I don't think "we" are causing them. Maybe it's the hosting company. As said, try blocking them, or installing Adblock Plus.

| There is a good news and a bad news. Your browser has been hijacked by a self installing adware. What you see is a symptom.
There is a hidden program in your computer that installs another that you see. Whenever you delete the one that you see, the hidden program will re-install it for you.
Some antivirus program may eliminated it.
Do you use a lot of search bars: like ask.com, aol ? That sh*& is the gateway to hell.
Save your My Documents, bookmarks, pictures, videos, documents in to an external drive than to a total system restore with a new CD. Some computer may have additional partitions which allows you to restore to factory setting. Save your stuff cause you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING OTHERWISE.
It makes your computer brand new. And that's the good news.
It is not worth trying to fix it. Backup and re install windows.

| Or better still, bin the Windows PC and get yourself an iPad or iMac. |

| Here is a simple solution for adware/malware. http://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/?gclid=CMOB4KeX2LwCFYRQ7AodhSIA_Q Free program to check out and solve such problems. Well worth paying for the full version. Used it for years. Lifetime free updates. Very user-friendly.

Agreed! I haven't seen a pop-up since I went with Macintosh. |

| Your right Dan. I have used the Malwarebytes with Avast for a few years now and between them both have had no issues running Windows Vista |

| DickO,
I pay to keep the ads off for members (who sign in) and for guests. I don't see any ads either on my end so you many have a problem on your end. |

| This might help explain it http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/yahoo-fox-and-google-inadvertently-spread-malware-through-ads/ My wife's laptop ended up with this crepe for some time. I spent hours trying to track it down and destroy it with malaware and virus destroyers, Finally, I asked my youngest son if he had any ideas, and a few minutes later it was sorted. I asked him how he did it and he said with a condescending look "I just switched it off, dad"!!!!!!!!!!
The nature of this type of advertising is despicable. |

| Thanks all for your help. The wife and I are on a short vacation down here in Texas at the moment(just had a grandson graduate police academy training in Dallas) but will get busy on getting some corrective measures done on my unit. Also am thinking of just getting a new unit since the one I have is now six years old or more; plus XP will no longer be supported by May or June of this year. So, never a dull moment, as they say... |

| Very frustrating, indeed.
Run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Turn off pop-ups.
Use Firefox as your browser. |
